Swedish Football 2022 -

Post by EireSV »

Hi,

I'm new to the forum a little bit about me I'm an Irish man living in Stockholm. My first love in football is Galway United (for my sins) and my second football love is AIK.. I moved out here in 2015 and became a member at AIK in 2018.

Swedish Cup has been getting played currently I don't enjoy how a majority of clubs use this tournament as a warm up for the Allsvenskan.

Quarter Finals

Kalmar 0 - 2 Djurgardens
Elfsborg 1 - 0 Goteborg
Hammarby 3 - 2 Norrkoping
Malmo - AIK - Played on Monday.

Great someone finally opened this.

I also like AIK. :grin1:
btw not many people know that we also had a football club named AIK in Yugoslavia, but it has since renamed to TSC.

So it's decided that the 4th European spot of Sweden will go to either Elfsborg or Hammarby.

Hammarby needs to win the Cup, otherwise it's Elfsborg in Europe.

Malmo go through in extra time. Think Hammarby would collect more points in Europe but can't bring myself to wanting them to win the cup.

Given that both Hammarby and Elfsborg were close to reaching the ECL group stages last year, I think either would have a decent chance this year as well. The main challenge being both would start as unseeded in Q2 and would need luck in the draw.

AIK and Djurgardens have been consistently poor in European football for quite some time. My expectations are low here.

Based on current standings (and especially if Russia ends up being banned), CL qualifiers are looking increasingly doable and Malmo has a decent chance of reaching the group stages again. Thanks to an improved coefficient they may even end up being seeded in CLQ3 if things go their way in the other leagues. Though I would rather see how they would perform in the EL (currently seeded in pot 2 as things stand) or even ECL this year. Would love to see a Swedish side reach the 1/8 or even quarter finals in a European tournament again.

Hammarby and Malmo through to the final which will be played at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm. Hammarby needs to win to secure a spot in the ECL qualifiers, otherwise Elfsborg will get it. Malmo has the chance to win their 15th cup title in I don't know how many tries.. last time they won it was in 1989.

The Cup final will be played in Hammarby's home ground.

Malmö FF lost the Cup final on 6 occasions (1945, 1970–71, 1995–96, 2015–16, 2017–18, 2019–20).

They have the 2nd most runner-ups (6) after AIK, but also by far the most cup titles (14) in the country. Let's see if they can do it on Hammerby's home ground - certainly not an easy task.

Perfect start from Hammarby and Goteborg with 9 points each after 3 rounds.

To be fair, Hammarby have had pretty palatable fixtures so far, playing Helsingborgs, Sundsvall (both promoted from Superettan) and Mjallby. Goteborg have played Helsingborgs and Varnamo (also both promoted from Superettan), but impressed vs local rivals Hacken yesterday.

Malmo (7p) in 3rd having played two key rivals for the championship (Elfsborg and AIK) already -- demolishing AIK 3-0 at home yesterday and looking very strong.

AIK (3p) are playing Varberg and Djurgardens (6p) next -- grabbing points in these matches will be crucial if they want don't want to lag too far behind the top teams.

Supposed title contenders Norrkoping have had an abysmal start to the season with 3 defeats. Already out of the race?

Both sides are quite interesting, it's like choosing between a knight (H) and a bishop (E) to me.

Depends on the position, but the bishop is usually a better choice. A knight better when the position is closed and the bishop's move is restricted, but in open play the value of the knight is limited compared to the bishop. And a pair of bishops is usually bigger value than 2 knights or a bishop+knight.
