Finally a second victory for FCSB. It was a hard fought game as well. The defense is still very fragile, the attack is interesting with chances created, but also many of them wasted, there is still a long way for them to improve.

First defeat for Hermannstadt.
CFR is now in control in the championship, can tie the leaders if they win the postponed matches (not necessary that easy).
Universitatea Craiova also in the playoff places and also a game in hand, I think they an easy 3 games until the half of the first round (matchday 15)
Petrolul and UTA were a surprise in the playoff places and now they are back in the playout places, both have hard games the next matchday and might gate even further away.

Next matchday most interesting match Sepsi - Farul. Sepsi seems to comeback in form so difficult game for Farul to keep the lead. Petrolul - FCSB the fan favorite. And UTA - CFR could be interesting if we consider the UTA form from the start of the championship, but they play very bad now.

Supriseing Rapid lost to the bottom team Chindia. Which this way got it's first win of the championship. So now everybody has at least a loss or at least a win. Still 2 teams that didn't draw at all: CFR/Rapid. (true CFR has 2 less games).

Forgot to mention the most stupid format for a cup. There will be 4 groups made up of 6 teams. the teams will be divided into 3 pots and each group will have 2 teams from each pot. Now they are not going to play one game against each other, but each team will play 3 games making sure they will play 1 game against a team from each pot. First 2 will qualify to the quarters.
The cup groups are bellow:
Group A:
Pot 1: Sepsi, FC Voluntari
Pot 2: U Craiova 1948, Petrolul
Pot 3: Dinamo, Unirea Slobozia

Group B:
Pot 1: FCSB, Botosani
Pot 2: CS Mioveni, UTA
Pot 3: Otelul Galati, Gloria Buzau

Group C:
Pot 1: CFR, Farul
Pot 2: Rapid, U Cluj
Pot 3: CSC Dumbravita, CSM Alexandria

Group D:
Pot 1: Universitatea Craiova, FC Arges
Pot 2: Chindia Targoviste, AFC Hermannstadt
Pot 3: Ocna Mures, Minaur Baia Mare

Group C very strong with basically the virtual first 3 teams in the league (if we add CFR some points for the postponed matches). Not a big fan o this, I think it complicated, that was the Cup reason to exist, simple knockout stages.

FCSB - UTA Arad
17 oct 2022:
FC CFR 1907 Cluj - SEPSI OSK

Previous Matchday:
finally all teams have at least 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss. CFR and Rapid got their first draw.
Hermanstand after losing the first match now as a consecutive loss. On the other spectrum, Chindia after getting the first win has as the consecutive one. Similar FCSB managed for the first consecutive win as well. Also this is the first clean sheet for FCSB.
All playoff teams lost points this matchday except Farul, so they are gathering a cushion.

Next macthday:
probably most interesting match should be CFR - Sepsi. Although don't expect enjoyable football from either.
AFC Hermannstadt - FC Rapid 1923 - is an important contender (the teams are higher up with one position each). but both seem to be loosing steam
from a fans perspective Universitatea - Petrolul could be interesting

Last matchday FCSB managed to climb 5 places (considering the games already played in the same matchday the climbed over 6 teams reaching 7th position).
This matchday the won at Sepsi and got into the playoff positions right at the middle of the first phase. Still 2 games in hand. Also many of the surprises are finishing and most of them are out of the playoff stages with the regular teams occupying those places. Hard to win at Sepsi, but again FCSB is retreating after taking the lead, and is very fragile, they were dominated by Sepsi in the final minutes.

Meanwhile in the Cup the first games of the groups took place. FCSB at least showed the same respect to the competition as the ECL and send 10 reserves. The only usual started is the LB that was injured and hasn't had a changed to play in the last month. Really "interesting" game, 4 red cards. First FCSB player got a yellow for a foul and a second yellow for applauding the referee. a few minutes after a player on the bench of the other team "applauded" the referee and got the second yellow to be eliminated, he was on the bench to be rested for the championship game, the red card applies to the next championship game. and FCSB got 2 more "normal" red cards for 2nd yellows. (one of them was the regular starter).

FCSB lost the last game. Hence the coach was "forced" to resign, as he is the main responsible for the state the team is.

else where, Rapid won the "train" derby vs CFR. Important to keep the the 2nd place as CFR as 2 game in hand. Some controversies around the penalties.
Also Farul continues to have almost perfect run.

Hi folks, I'm curious if FCV Farul would be eligible to play in Europe next season should they finish in a European place? I ask because it seems Farul & Viitorul merged in 2021, and UEFA rules don't allow the entry of "new" clubs into Europe if they are less than 3 years old

This is the news on 7 February: https://spotmedia.ro/stiri/sport/farul- ... ul-cu-uefa

By google translate:

Farul Constanţa won the lawsuit at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne regarding the UEFA license and will be able to receive the right to participate in the European Cups starting with the 2023-2024 season.

The Romanian Football Federation announced on Its official website on Tuesday that TAS has annulled the decision of club Financial Control Body (CFCB) within UEFA, which prohibited the group patronized by Gheorghe Hagi to participate in European cups, in case of qualification, as a result of changing the name from "FC Viitorul" to "Farul Constanţa".

"The Arbitral Tribunal of Sport issued on Monday, February 6, the decision in the case regarding the license to participate in European competitions of the Farul Constanţa club, and after analyzing the arguments of the club and the FRF, it found their validity, ordering the annulment of the CFCB decision. As for the license for the participation of The Constanta Lighthouse in European competitions, UEFA will reconsider it, however, taking into account the provisions of the TAS decision", it is mentioned on the FRF website.

The Romanian Football Federation was part of the file at TAS, supporting the case of farul Constanţa against UEFA.

Farul Constanţa announced in its turn the success in the trial against the European forum. "As we officially transmitted a few months ago, our club has continued the legal process regarding the right to participate in European competitions. Yesterday we received with satisfaction the decision of the Lausanne Sports Tribunal (TAS) stating that Farul Constanţa has the right to apply for the UEFA license for participation in European competitions this year," reads a statement published on the club's official website.

In May 2022, the Lighthouse club did not receive the UEFA license, and the Commission for the Financial Control of the Clubs decided that it could not play in the next three editions of the European Cups, in the case of qualification, as a result of the change of the name from "FC Viitorul" to "Farul Constanţa". The decision was subsequently appealed to the TAS by the Constanta group.

On June 21, 2021, the first league football group FC Viitorul and the second divisional Lighthouse merged, the team from the first echelon taking over the name of Farul Constanţa as well as the logo of the new entity. Ciprian Marica, the owner of farul Constanţa club from Liga II, became a shareholder in the new sports entity now in Liga I.

I couldn't find anything more than this. That news is taken from the federation site. and that's the last think mentioned on that site as well.

funny how google actually translates Farul to light house.

Is Steaua Bucuresti (not FCSB, the other one) eligible for promotion this year?

If not, what's the point of the club being owner by the Army, if it cannot compete in the 1st division despite earning promotion/promotion play-offs twice in 2 years?

Not this year, or at least most likely not this year.
Probably more than half of the teams in the first division ar actually sponsored by city/county budget and even more in the lower leagues.
But the first Division is a profesional one for which you have to associate with a private business and reorganize. "Army Steaua' refused to do this until now.
Currently in the parliament there is a proposal to change this. By an important figure in majority coalition, but it doesn t look like it s a real priority to them.
This modification it s pretty much a dedication as there not a lot of instances like this. Most other sports are actually classified as amateur level.
But if the coalition decides they want to change the law it can happen very quickly and the Federation is very ambiguous about if that would also impact the current season, so there might be surprises.

Ignoring current laws I still don t see how a NATO Army having a profesional football team is a priority when the cold war is reignited and heating up.

Let's give an update after some long time:

Play-off standings after 7 matchdays:
Pos -Pts M
01 - 46 7 FCV Farul
02 - 43 7 FCSB
03 - 39 7 CFR Cluj
04 - 36 7 CS Universitatea Craiova
05 - 34 7 Rapid București
06 - 25 7 Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe

Play-out standings after 7 matchdays:
01 - 34 7 Petrolul Ploiești
02 - 32 7 FCU 1948
03 - 30 7 16 FC Voluntari
04 - 28 7 FC Hermannstadt
05 - 28 7 FC Botoșani
06 - 27 7 Universitatea Cluj
07 - 22 7 UTA Arad
08 - 22 7 Chindia Târgoviște
09 - 21 7 Argeș Pitești
10 - 11 7 CS Mioveni

Cup Final:
Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe - U Cluj

European battle some details that impact it:
U Cluj doesn't have european license so all the other teams fighting for euro places will suport U Cluj.
In case of equal points Farul wins against FCSB and CFR because they didn't benefited from rounding of points at the beginning of the playoff.
In case Sepsi wins the cup. Nr. 3 from the playoff is not directly qualified, but they will need to play vs the winner of nr.1 vs nr.2 from the playout. Obviously nr.4 from playoff is out if Sepsi wins.

Remaining games in play-out:
Matchday 8:
FC Rapid 1923 - SEPSI OSK
Universitatea Craiova - FC Farul Constanta
FCSB - FC CFR 1907 Cluj

Matchday 9:
SEPSI OSK - FC CFR 1907 Cluj
FC Farul Constanta - FCSB
FC Rapid 1923 - Universitatea Craiova

Matchday 10:
FC CFR 1907 Cluj - FC Farul Constanta
FCSB - FC Rapid 1923
Universitatea Craiova - SEPSI OSK

Very interesting games still to be played. Obviously the teams that already have points advantage are favorites.

Something you don t see everyday.
A CFR player does a violent sliding tackle against a teammate. The faulted played had to be changed.
https://orangesport.ro/video-un-fotbali ... e-21124412

This comes after yesterday in Craiova Farul. The FW captain and most experienced player at Farul, Alibec got a red card at half time. Meaning Farul had to switch to defending a game they were controlling comfortably, in the end they ended in a draw. But that means FCSB could win the championship if they win the remaining games. Alibec will also miss the 2 last crucial games vs Steaua and CFR because of that straight red card

Not a lot of cool heads.

Otelul is back in the 1st division, together with Poli Iasi.

Dinamo Bucuresti will be in the promotion/relegation play-offs.
