Argentina and Paraguay qualify for the Paris Olympics. This will be the 10th men's participation for Argentina and 3rd participation for Paraguay.

This also means the two-time defending men's gold medalists Brazil failed to qualify, same as the last two-time defending men's gold medalists Argentina, who failed to qualify in 2012. So still no team are able to win three consecutive men's gold medal in football, with Great Britain (1908, 1912), Uruguay (1924, 1928), Hungary (1964, 1968), Argentina (2004, 2008), Brazil (2016, 2020) winning two in a row (on the women's side, USA won three in a row between 2004 and 2012). Brazil also missed the chance to qualify for their 15th Olympics, which would have tied them with record holders Italy.

Paraguay are champions of the CONMEBOL Preolímpico for the second time, after 1992.

The 12 qualified teams so far are: France (hosts), USA, Dominican Republic, Spain, Israel, Ukraine, Morocco, Egypt, Mali, New Zealand, Paraguay, and Argentina.

I suppose somebody can just calculate the points based on the formula used last time.

There are two "possible" problems:

1. The champions of the UEFA U-21 tournament, England, were ineligible to play in the Olympics. So will Spain, the runners-up, get the bonus points?

2. It is very likely the draw, usually held in late March or early April, will be held before the three AFC teams and the winner of the AFC-CAF play-off are known. So how are these teams seeded? Perhaps those four teams will be seeded in their own pot? Of course, these teams may potentially be teams which could theoretically get a high seed, such as Japan and Korea Republic.

1. I'd say no, they probably wouldn't as England were the European Champions 😊.

2. IIRC in 2018 women's u17 WC the 3 Concacaf teams weren't known and the seeding of the 3 highest ranked Concacaf teams were used. The place holders used were Concacaf 1/2/3. I suspect something similar this time around.

What a joke!

I could've told you this before the tournament began!

Miles ahead of the competition. It's a question of how many goals by, not who will win!
