Participating teams
Currently, 10 out of 12 teams have qualified for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Spain and USA. The identity of the two remaining teams, from the CAF region, will be known after the last round of African qualifiers at the beginning of April.

We already know 12 of the 16 teams taking part in the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024: Argentina, Dominican Republic, Egypt, France, Israel, Mali, Morocco, New Zealand, Paraguay, Spain, Ukraine and USA. The three Asian teams will be determined after the AFC U-23 Asian Cup by beginning of May, while the identity of the last participating team will be decided by an AFC-CAF play-off (date TBD).

Procedures
Women's tournament
The 12 qualified nations will be drawn into three four-team groups.

The draw will see teams allocated to four pots of three teams each based on the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking, which was released on 15 March 2024.

The draw will start by drawing a team from team pot 1 and will end by drawing the last team from team pot 4. A ball will be drawn from a team pot, followed by a ball from one of the group pots, thus determining the position to which the respective team will be allocated within the group.

Men's tournament
The 16 qualified nations will be drawn into four groups of four teams.

The draw will see teams allocated to four pots of four teams each, based on a ranking system created according to past sporting performance. The ranking system is based on the total number of points obtained in the last five editions of the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament (three points for a win, one point for a draw, no points for a defeat), namely those held in 2020, 2016, 2012, 2008 and 2004.

The draw will start by drawing a team from team pot 1 and will end by drawing the last team from team pot 4. A ball will be drawn from a team pot, followed by a ball from one of the group pots, thus determining the position to which the respective team will be allocated within the group.

Real Madrid mentioned that that would not allow rheir players to play the Olympics. This means that Camavinga and of course possibly Mbappé could be impacted for France. Presumably other nations (Spain, possibly Morocco with Brahim Diaz, etc.) could be impacted too.

It’s just the beginning …
Don't forget to post your predictions for the new season

Does that mean that the AFC finalists will know the potential group before the final? Potentially a scenario in which both team will prefer to lose may occur in such case and depending on the draw's results. Such scenario may also have political aspects. (Same for AFC3)

Would need more clarification from FIFA about how to distribute the three AFC spots to the groups after the AFC qualifying competition is finished. Are they distributed by the positions achieved by the teams in the AFC U-23 Asian Cup? Or by the seeding rankings of each qualified team? Potentially Japan and Korea Republic who have very good seeding scores (enough to be in Pot 1) can finish 3rd in the AFC U-23 Asian Cup and be placed in Pot 3 if they are assigned as "AFC 3".

Alternatively it is also possible to have another draw to distribute the three AFC teams to the groups after the AFC qualifying competition is finished, so that there is no potential case of a team "purposedly" losing a match. Or perhaps just a draw for the two AFC finalists to put them as "AFC 1" or "AFC 2", since they are in the same pot anyway, so the result of the final will not have a direct impact of the group composition. On the other hand, I don't think anybody is going to purposedly lose the semi-final or third-placed match to get a "weaker" group because every team wants to win a match which guarantees Olympic qualification.

The draw presenter says the three AFC teams will be placed as "AFC 1", "AFC 2", "AFC 3" based on the ranking of the five-tournament seeding formula scores, not by the ranking of the qualifying competition AFC U-23 Asian Cup 2024.
