That sucks for Taiwan. Possibly the strongest 2nd seed.

How did Bangladesh manage to get in the top pot?

Seedings for Round 1 are based on the rankings of the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019, which has since been rebranded as the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™.

Bangladesh qualified for the 2019 final tournament, and actually performed decently, losing 0-1 to Thailand and 0-9 to Japan, and drawing 2-2 with Australia in the third match.

Their senior women’s team also won South Asia’s SAFF championship this year, including beating India 3-0 in the group stage. So while their men’s team is hopeless, their women’s team is reasonably competitive.

Thanks. I would have expected them to have just got a very favourable draw last time to get up there. The draw with Australia is a massive upset!
