2023 UEFA Super Cup

Post by amenina »

https://www.uefa.com/uefasupercup/news/ ... p-lowdown/

Champions League winners: Manchester City
1st participation

vs

Europa League winners: Sevilla
7th participation, 1 title (2006)

Date
Wednesday 16 August 2023, 21:00 CET

Venue
Georgios Karaiskakis, Piraeus, Greece
(It was originally to be held at Kazan Stadium, Kazan, Russia, but was relocated due to UEFA ban of Russian football: https://www.uefa.com/uefasupercup/news/ ... to-athens/)

Regulations
https://documents.uefa.com/r/Regulation ... 023-Online

If the result stands as a draw at the end of normal time, no extra time is played at the end of the match. A penalty shoot-out determines the winner (see Paragraph 12.02 to Paragraph 12.03).

Future
Possibly the last "two-team" match. Proposed four-team tournament starting from 2024 (details to be confirmed by UEFA).

It would be interesting to make a semi-final between EL-ECL winners to face CL winner. It would also give more "prestige" to Conference League.

In ECA presentation made in June 22 they said they studying a Supercup between those two.

I remember the old TIM Trophy: big three italian teams playing each other in same night, same stadium, 45 minutes for each "match".

They've got rid of extra-time! Interesting but unusual 2/3 through a 3 year cycle. It's the right move IMO midweek at the start of a season.

Off to pub quiz tonight but will watch it in there (provided they have it on big screen!)

Gunna be interesting to see how City play sans De Bruyne, would imagine they'll bring Phillips into midfield!

Time to crown the best team on the continent!

Sevilla power in a header from a cross. Are City going to lose another Super Cup in a matter of days?

Where is your defence, City? They get the ball and they're just in, there's no one tracking the runners.
