Thought this was the right time to open the discussion for the new season with PL fixtures released at 9am tomorrow and EFL ones next Thursday at the same time.

Bournemouth sack their manager.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65951241
The guy who kept them up, a feat widely acknowledged as being very impressive with some even thinking he should have been Manager of the Year had City not won the PL and CL.
I saw so many people when making their predictions on who would be relegated not just saying Bournemouth would be, but acting like it was a given. They'd be like "Of course Bournemouth, now the other two..." No need to explain why Bournemouth, because they felt it was just obvious Bournemouth would go down and everyone knew that.

Well that was fast. Andoni Iraola is the new manager.

Of course. They would not have sacked him if they did not have a replacement in mind.Lorric wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 16:23 Well that was fast. Andoni Iraola is the new manager.

Personally I have never had any problem with an owner changing managers during the season break. If there is a new direction you want the club to go, and there are better candidates in the job market than your current manager, it is the best time to make a change. In a way, Bournemouth's new owner, which came in December, was smart not to pull the trigger during the season like Chelsea, and let the head coach (who they did not choose) did his job in a stable environment, securing Premier League safety, then appoint a manager they actually want.
They've gone about it the right way, I'll give them that. Made it clear they're pleased with his work, it's just this is their guy that they're set on for whatever reason, and they've got him in early. Oh I might laugh if they go down, but I won't wish it on them and there's a certain bravery to doing this, I don't think anyone would have had a problem with them not doing this, fans would have been totally behind it.amenina wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 16:27Of course. Yeah, and even if they stick with O'Neil, if he starts next season poorly in the first 10 games, the club will again be under pressure to look for a replacement, and it wouldn't really be as easy to find one at that time. So may as well do it now with a manager you actually trust, but of course the new guy must also hit the ground running quickly with the ruthlessness of manager sackings nowadays.Lorric wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 16:44They've gone about it the right way, I'll give them that. Also the owners may have some ambitious transfer targets he wants to sign, and Iraola may be a more attractive manager to them.
It also means there are now four managers in the Premier League from the Basque country: Mikel Arteta, Unai Emery, Julen Lopetegui, and Andoni Iraola.

EFL fixtures have been released https://www.efl.com/news/2023/june/five ... ening-day/
Just waiting for Carabao Cup draw round 1 draw which for the 1st time in 8 years will have all 72 EFL clubs and Leicester and Leeds don't get a bye to Round 2 (would be funny if they draw each other) as a result of West Ham winning ECL! They must have changed rules as they used to have a PR if that happened.

Kane has been on that contract for a long time. I understand if he signs a new one with Tottenham it will significantly increase.seso wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 11:18Relatively low wage for the PL top scorer.bugylibicska wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 07:27 Best paid players in the EPL:

Rashford caught my eye, he just signed a new contract to 2028, that must be it.
The whole top 5 and 7 of the top 10, 5 of the 7 after that and 13/24 total are at the Manche$ter clubs! Why are they paying so much?!
Wonder what Declan Rice is on now.

Lingardinho had the same salary as Kane at Nottingham! Levy treats Kane as his slave, but now scared that he'd leave offered him £400,000.seso wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 11:18Relatively low wage for the PL top scorer.bugylibicska wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 07:27 Best paid players in the EPL:

He's hardly a slave with £200,000 a week but yes, he definitely deserves a higher salary than most of the players above him. It'd be interesting to see where he stood in that top when he negotiated his current salary.
