From the pictures i saw on tv from around the Madrid region it was a very good thing that this happened rather than waiting for the time of the kick off to make a decision.

Agreed :!: Here in the USA they ran shots of the weather in various parts of central Spain and it looked like an utter mess :!:

Well, seems like we've gone forever without LaLiga . . . but never fear

Jornada 5 begins

Fri. 15 Sept. 2100 Rayo 2, Alavés 0 Each of these has six points in the four games played to date. At 41', Alvaro García goes down in the area--penalty, converted by Isi Palazón at 43'--1-0 at the half in Vallecas. A win would lift Rayo, for the moment, to fourth place. At 52', Sivera saves for Alavés with a foot. Heavy rain starts to fall in Vallecas . . . At 82', Jorge de Frutos, on as a sub, scores his first goal for Rayo--2-0. That's the final--Rayo with their first points won at home so far :!:

Sat.16 Sept.

1400 Athletic 3, Cádiz 0 in progress. Just love these games that kick off at 0500 here where I live. In this game, #5 hosts #6. Scoreless first half, although Sancet of Athletic hit the crossbar twice--once with a header and once with a shot with his foot. At 66' comes the breakthrough--Guruzeta, unmarked, heads in to give Athletic the lead--1-0. And at 68', Villalibre, just in, scores with a header to make it 2-0. 42,881 reported on hand. And at 90', Iñaki Williams makes it 3-0.

1615 Valencia 3, Atlético 0 Can Valencia beat one of the top teams :?: Atleti would climb into second place on GD with a win . . . and they have a game pending against Sevilla. At 5', Hugo Duro gives Valencia the lead--1-0. At 34',  Hugo Duro scores again--2-0. And that's the score at the half. Will the real Atleti show up in the second half :?: No, at 54' it's Javi Guerra of Valencia who scores from just outside the area--3-0. And that's the final score. Awful performance by Atleti. Valencia can see some hope :!:

1830 Celta 0, Mallorca 1 Celta has four points to date; Mallorca has but two points and is above the drop only on GD. Scoreless first half in Balaídos. At 69', Jonathan Bamba of Celta smashes a shot off the crossbar; ball bounces down and . . . VAR disallows, as the ball did not cross the line completely. At 85', Vedat Muriqi of Mallorca scores what may prove to be the winner--0-1. Eight minutes added time . . . Mallorca holds on for their first win of the season and climbs away from the drop.

2100 Barça 5, Betis 0 Barça is in third place with three wins and a tie; Betis is in seventh place with two wins and one tie. At 25', Joao Félix scores from a difficult angle--1-0. At 32', Lewandowski makes it 2-0. Halftime in the Lluis Companys. 45,000 plus reported on hand. At 62', Ferrán Torres makes it 3-0 with a free kick; at 66', Raphinha scores for 4-0; at 81, Joao Cancelo scores for 5-0. Barça take over first place, but probably only until Real Madrid plays tomorrow.

Sun. 17 Sept.

1400 Getafe 3, Osasuna 2 Getafe has four points to date, and trails #10 Osasuna by two points. At 36', Mitrovic heads in a corner to give Getafe the lead--1-0. At 45', Iker Muñoz ties it for Osasuna after a corner--1-1 at the half. At 51', Carmona heads in to give Getafe the lead again--2-1. The lead lasts very little, as Soria commits a penalty, converted by Budiimir at 57'--2-2. At 86', Macsimovic heads in a corner to give Geta the lead for the third time--3-2; can Geta hold onto the lead this time :?: Yes, Geta holds on through 12 minutes of added time--3-2 the final.

1615 Villarreal 2, Almería 1 Villarreal has lost both of their home games to date, while Almería is next-to-last with one tie and three losses to date. At 44', Akieme, unmarked, scores for Almería--0-1. Six minutes added time--at 45'+5', Gerard Moreno ties the score--1-1 at the half. 18,467 reported on hand. At 94', Sorloth heads in what proves to be the winner--2-1 the final.

1830 Sevilla 1, Las Palmas 0 Sevilla has played three and lost them all; Las Palmas has played four and tied two of them--#20 hosts #18. Scoreless first half. It took forever, but Sevilla finally scored  at 71', Lukebakio put in a rebound off the post--1-0. Can Sevilla hang on :?: They did hold on . . . somewhat by the skin of their teeth. First win of the season; in fact, first points of the season :!: . . . and unless Granada gets something positive tomorrow, Sevilla will be above the drop at the jornada's end.

2100 Real Madrid 2, Real Sociedad 1 El Real needs to win to stay atop LaLiga. At 5', Barrenetxea puts in a rebound to give the visitors the lead--0-1. And that's how it stands at halftime. At 46', Valverde smashes his shot from the half-moon off the post and in--1-1. At 60', Joselu heads in and el Real is back in first place--2-1. And that's how the game ends.

Mon. 18 Sept. 2100 Granada 2, Girona 4 Granada has a win and three losses to date, just enough to keep them above the drop. Girona is she "equipo revelación" thus far: they're second with three wins and a tie. To retake second place from Barça, they must win today's game by five goals.. At 22'. Tsygankov lets fly from just outside the area and connects--0-1 for the visitors. At 31', 19-year-old Sávio scores from the top of the balcony of the area--quite a goal and it's 0-2. WOW, is Girona putting on a show :exclamation: At 34', David López makes it 0-3. That's the sscore at the half; two more unanswered goals woud lift Girona to second place. 17,323 reported on hand. At 63', Uzuni puts Granada on the scoresheet--1-3. At 85', Lucas Boyé cuts the margin to 2-3--game on :!: At 89', Yan Couto makes it 2-4 for Girona. And that's the final.

Jornada 6 coming right up

Fri. 22 Sept. 2100 Alavés 0, Athletic 2 A "lesser" Basque derby :!: This far, Alavés has won at home--twice--and lost on the road--thrice. Can they maintain that against #4 Athletic, which to date has a win and a tie on the road :?: At 18', Vesga assists Iñaki Williams, who scores a "first touch" goal--0-1. And it's 0-1 at the half. This would lift Athletic into a tie on points with second-place Barça and third-place Girona, although Athletic trails both of these on GD. 19,421 reported on hand in Mendizorroza--almost a capacity crowd :!: At 76', Sancet makes it 0-2 for Athletic, lifting them into a tie with Girona on GD. And that's the final. Excellent game by Unai Simón, Athletic's goalie.

Sat, 23 Sept.

1400 Girona 5, Mallorca 3 Girona is the "equipo revelación" thus far, with a record of 4-1-0; they are in third place and trail Barça only on GD. Mallorca has a record of 1-2-2 to date. At 3', handball penalty against Girona; Muriqi converts at 4'--0-1 :?: At 26', David López of Girona shoots out of a crowd and scores to tie it--1-1. At 31', VAR awards penalty in favor of Girona, converted by Dovbyk at about 33'--2-1, and Girona is in first place, at least for the moment. At 37', Iván Martín makes it 3-1 for Girona. At 45', it's 4-1, as Yángel Gerrera scores. Whatta first half by Girona--4-1 after nine minutes added time. At 57', Savinho makes it 5-1. At 88', Abdón Prats puts in a loose ball to make it 5-2. And at 95', Abdón Prats heads in another goal to reduce the final margin to 5-3. Girona, at the moment, leads LaLiga.

1615 Osasuna 0, Sevilla 0 Osasuna has lost their last two games after winning two of their first three. Sevilla climbed above the drop on GD after winning their first points by beating Las Palmas. Scoreless first half in Pamplona. And scoreless second half.

1830 Barça 3, Celta 2 Barça has come alive, winning each of their last two games with scores of 5-0--the second of these was in the CL. Celta is a point above the drop. Looks as though Barça went out to play their last two games--both 5-0 wins--over again, but they didn't get this game right at all--a day late and a dollar short with most everything :!: Can they possibly put it back together after this wretched first half :?: Well, yeah, but did they have to wait so long :?: Seemed like more of the first half, especially since Barça gave up a goal at 76' to Douvikas--0-2 . . . but at 81, the comeback began, as Lewandowski made it 1-2 and then at 85' he made it 2-2, assisted by Cancelo; the latter scored the winner at 89'. As Yogi Berra woulda said it, "amazin'" :!: :grin1: :grin1:

2100 Almería 2, Valencia 2 Almería is the "farolillo rojo"--no wins and just one tie in five games :!: Valencia seems to have come alive after two losses, beating Atlético 3-0 last weekend to climb to fifth place. At 14', Diego López beats the defenders and then beats the goalie to givve Valencia the lead--0-1. Halftime. At 59', Arribas ties it for Almería as he puts in a rebound--1-1. At 63', Javi Guerra puts Valencia ahead--1-2. At 69', Arribas ties once more for Almería as he once again puts in a rebound--2-2. And that's the final score.

Sun. 24 Sept.

1400 Real Sociedad 4, Getafe 3 La Real has a record of 1-3-1 after a narrow loss at Real Madrid last weekend. Getafe has a respectable record of 2-1-2 going into this game, but they're 0-0-2 on the road. At 2', Take Kubo gives la Real the lead--1-0. At 39', Aleñà heads in to tie it--1-1. At 45'+2´, penalty awarded to Getafe. Borja Mayoral converts at 45'+5´--1-2 for Getafe at the break. At 60', pk awarded to la Real, converted at 61' by Oyarzábal--2-2. At about 66', goalkeeping error by David Soria; Brais Méndez takes advantage to score--3-2. At 88', after VAR review, Oyarzábal's goal is allowed--4-2. At 92', Latasa makes it 4-3; it ain't over until it's over :!: But 4-3 is the final--it's over.

1615 Rayo 1, Villarreal 1 El Rayo is in sixth place with a record of 3-0-2 to date. Villarreal is 2-0-3 to date; plays in the EL today (Thurs. 21 Sept.). Great action early :!: At 15', Sorloth gives Villarreal the lead--0-1. Less than a minute later, Kike Pérez scores to tie it for Rayo--1-1. Tablas at the half in Vallecas. 12,865 reported on hand. Scoreless second half--1-1 the final.

1830 Las Palmas 1, Granada 0 #19 with 2 points hosts #18 with three points to date. Scoreless first half in Las Palmas. At 92', Kirian Rodríguez scores what proves to be the winner--1-0. The win lifts the Canaries to 15th place; Celta, Granada, and Almería are now in the drop.

1830 Betis 1, Cádiz 1 Great rivalry between these two :!: Betis comes off an EL game; they have seven points to date in LaLiga, with a record of 2-1-2. Cádiz is also at seven points. At 41', Chris Ramos gives Cádiz the lead--0-1. Halftime in the Benito Villamarín, which is full to overflowing--56,087 reported on hand.. At 60', Guido Rodríguez connects with a perfect chilena to tie it for Betis--1-1. At 93', Ledesma saves the furniture for Cádiz. And at 94', Ledesma saves again . . . And 1-1 is the final.

2100 Atlético 3, Real Madrid 1 THE Madrid derby :!: Atlético has a game in hand and comes in seventh, with seven points, eight point shy of LaLiga leaders Real Madrid; the latter is unbeaten and untied in five games. Wow, whatta start  at 4', Morata heads in, and it's 1-0. At 18', they rerun Morata's goal, except the pass is to Griezmann, who does a perfect Maorata header for 2-0. No, it ain't over yet--at 35', Kroos cuts the margin to 2-1 with a well-placed howitzer shot. Halftime. El Real had a ref''s decision go against them on a play that wouda tied it--tough call. Should the game end as it is at the half, Barça would be first, followed by Girona and then el Real, with Athletic fourth. UNREAL :!: :!: :!: At 46, Morata reruns his goal from the fourth minute--3-1. No, it really happened :!: And the 3-1 score holds up to become the final score :!: Whatta game :!: :!:

And Jornada 7 kicks off

Tues. 26 Sept.

1900 Sevilla 5, Almería 1 Sevilla is above the drop on GD; a loss to last-place Almería would leave Sevilla in the drop. Almería, with two points in six games, is hurting badly and will go all-out :!: At 7', En-Nesyri heads in a rebound off the post--1-0. At 8', Lukébakio makes it 2-0. At 38', Suso makes it 3-0 from beyond the area. Halftime. At the moment, Sevilla has climbed all the way to 11th place :?: At 51', Sevilla makes it 4-0--goal by Lamela or perhaps it will go as an own goal. At 71', penalty awarded to Almería, converted by Luis Suárez--4-1. At 92', Salas makes it 5-1. That's the final.

2130 Mallorca 2, Barça 2 Mallorca is one point and two places above the drop. Which Barça will show up--the one that trailed Celta by two goals at 80' on Saturday, or the one that then scored three times in about eight minutes to take over first place :?: Barça played a falrly mediocre first half and trails 2-1 at the break. At 8', Muriqi gives Mallorca the lead--1-0. Raphinha ties for Barça at 41'--1-1. At 45'+3, Abdón Prats puts the home team back ahead--2-1. Second half comin' right up :!: Barça looked incapable of getting anything from this game until Fermín López put in the tying goal at 75'--2-2 the final.

Wed. 27 Sept.

1900 Athletic 2, Getafe 2 Athletic is in fourth place and can rise to second place with a three-goal win. Getafe is a respectable 13th with seven points. At 6', Yuri Bercheche gives Athletic the lead--1-0. Athletic climbs to third place as things stand at the half. At 51', Gastón ties for Getafe. At 62', Iñaki Williams puts Athletic back in the lead--2-1. At 83', Latasa ties it for Getafe--2-2. And that's the final.

1900 Real Madrid 2, Las Palmas 0 El Real comes in smarting from their loss to Atleti; they will probably dispatch Las Palmas, which has scored twice all season, without much ado. Scoreless first half. El Real drops behind Athletic as things now stand. But el Real has apparently scored a late goal in the first half--this lifts them into first place. Goal by Brahim Díaz at 45'+3'. At 54', Joselu makes it 2-0 for el Real. That's the final, and el Real will finish the jornada in second place.

1900 Villarreal 1, Girona 2 Villarreal is 12th coming into this game; can they beat the "equipo revelación", Girona, which trails first-place Barça only on GD :?: . . . And the way this shakes out is that IF Girona can win this game, they'll be alone atop LaLiga :!: Scoreless first half. At the moment, Girona is in second place. At 49', Parejo gives Villarreal the lead as he converts a pk--1-0. At this moment, Girona has dropped to third place. But at 57', Dovbyk heads in to lift Girona back into the hunt--1-1. And at 62', Eric García heads in, and Girona leads LaLiga :!: :!: :!: And they will remain atop LaLiga at least until the next jornada, when they host Real Madrid.

After the last three games, the top four of LaLiga are

1. Girona------------19 points; +18-8 Next hosts Real Madrid.
2. Real Madrid--------18 points; +13-6 Next at Girona.
3. Barça-------------17 points; +18-8 Next hosts Sevilla.
4. Athletic-----------14 points; +13-6 Next at Real Soc.

2130 Cádiz 0, Rayo 0 Ninth-place Cádiz takes on seventh-place Rayo. Scoreless first half. 18,505 on hand. Hate to say it, but this was the crummy game of the week.

2130 Valencia 0, Real Sociedad 1 La Real is eighth, one point back of sixth-place Valencia. Carlos Fernández gives la Real the lead at 32'--0-1. Halftime. La Real wins it :!:

Thurs. 28 Sept.

1900 Celta 1, Alavés 1 Celta is top of The Drop. Alavés 1s 14tth, two points ahead of Celta. At 35', Marín of Alavés scores an own goal, which lifts Celta above the drop . . . if they can hold on to this advantage--1-0 at the half. At the moment, Celta is 15th and Alavés 17th. At 73', Samu ties for Alavés--1-1. And that's the final score, which is enough to lift Celta out of the drop and leave Las Palmas in the drop.

1900 Granada 1, Betis 1 Granada is next-to-last, with a record of 1-0-5. Betis is 10th; their record is 2-2-2. Scoreless first half in the Nuevo Los Cármenes--0-0 at the half. This leaves Betis 10th and Granada next-to-last. At 51', 17-year-old Diao fires a rocket into the Granada net--0-1 for Betis. At 67', Lucas Boyé ties for Granada; assist by Bryan Zaragoza--1-1. And this game also ends 1-1. Granada remains nest-to-last.

2130 Osasuna 0, Atlético 2 Osasuna is 11th with seven points; Atleti is fifth with a game in hand; they have 10 points going into this game. A win would lift them back to fifth place. At 19', Griezmann puta in a rebound--0-1. Halftime. At 75', Osasuna finally puts the ball in the net, but the goal is disallowed. Can Atleti possibly hang on :?: Perhaps they can--at 81', Riquelme makes it 0-2 in the first chance Atleti has in the second half. At 85', red cards are starting to come out, as control has gone by the wayside. Morata and Chimy Avila are dismissed. Ugly game, really ugly second half. Atleti wins it . . .

Girona is one of the City Group teams, their chairman is Pere Guardiola, younger brother of Pep. And two of their key players are Ukrainians, Tsigankov and Dovbyk :applause:
