2024 CONMEBOL club competitions (Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, Recopa Sudamericana)
2024 CONMEBOL club competitions (Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, Recopa Sudamericana)
With the 2023 Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana finals played a few weeks ago, it is time to look forward to the 2024 season of CONMEBOL club competitions, with the full set of qualified teams to be decided in the next month.
As there has been no announcement of any format changes, we can safely assume the number of teams for each association will remain the same as the just-finished season (there have been some rumors that CONMEBOL will once again look at inviting CONCACAF clubs to participate, but certainly not for 2024).
The slot allocation for the Copa Libertadores is as follows.
Copa Libertadores champions - 1 team (group stage)
Copa Sudamericana champions - 1 team (group stage)
Brazil - 7 teams (5 in group stage, 2 in second qualifying round)
Argentina - 6 teams (5 in group stage, 1 in second qualifying round)
Chile, Colombia - 4 teams (2 in group stage, 2 in second qualifying round)
Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela - 4 teams (2 in group stage, 1 in second qualifying round, 1 in first qualifying round)
The slot allocation for the Copa Libertadores is as follows.
Argentina, Brazil - 6 teams (all in group stage)
Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela - 4 teams (all in first qualifying round)
In addition, the 4 losers of the Copa Libertadores third qualifying round will transfer to the Copa Sudamericana group stage, and the 8 third-placed teams of the Copa Libertadores group stage will transfer to the Copa Sudamericana knockout round play-offs (where they will play the Copa Sudamericana group stage runners-up).
