The €24M that Stoke City paid for him isn’t stranger than the €20M that FC Porto paid for him some months ago.
English clubs just have too much money; they pay insane prices for ordinary players.
FC Porto, on the other hand, doesn’t have that much money, and has a reputation (deserved or not, that’s a different story) of being smart in the transfer market, buying talented players for cheap prices and selling them for a fortune later.
This Imbuste dude wasn’t cheap or talented, so why FC Porto signed him is the big mystery.
He wasn’t only overpriced, even €2M would have been too much for him, even for free, he is too bad for FC Porto, and he is the main responsible for FC Porto losing this season’s CL.

EPL teams spent 233,7 m€ this winter.. which is more than French, Spanish, Italian and German teams combined (31,7 + 31,3 + 66 + 47,7 = 176,7m€)
The teams which spent more money are the ones closer to relegation zone (Stoke, Everton, Watford, Norwich, Newcastle; Sunderland, ..) - I guess they want to avoid relegation no matter what and make sure to get even more money next season thanks to TV rights (will be an increase of 70%)

Shakhtar Donetsk star Alex Teixeira is set to become the latest player to move to China, coach Mircea Lucescu confirmed.
Teixeira was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool during the January transfer window, but the Premier League club were unwilling to meet the Ukrainian club's asking price.
Instead, the 26-year-old appears likely to join Jiangsu Suning in a €50million move.

Real Madrid will apparently (marca.com; sport.es) exercise their right of repurchase in the case of Alvaro Morata, currently with Juventus. The repurchase price is about 35 million euros, although Real may try to include player(s) instead of some of the money.

Ersan Gulum (7m €) from Besiktas and Burak Yilmaz (8m €) from Galatasaray have been transferred to Chinese teams as well.
For Besiktas it doesn't really matter as they transferred two central defenders this winter (Alexis Delgado and Marcelo Guedes), whereas it is more annoying for Galatasaray.. Clearly a sign that their season is over, even the current Lazio might be too much for them.

A belated thanks for all the replies about Imbula. Stoke's manager Mark Hughes has a reputation for repeatedly buying players represented by the same few agents, I wonder if that might be a factor.

I think Imbula is just represented by his father.Oldelpaso wrote:A belated thanks for all the replies about Imbula. Stoke's manager Mark Hughes has a reputation for repeatedly buying players represented by the same few agents, I wonder if that might be a factor.

Andrei Arshavin (34) released by Kuban Krasnodar signed for Vardar Skopje of Macedonia, currently lead the league and have a Russian owner. Arshavin formerly of Zenit had a 4 years spell with Arsenal in the EPL.
David de Gea is only 26 but he has been having a fantastic career with Atletico Madrid and Man Utd (about 200 apps combined)! PSG seems to be interested in him too now (besides Real Madrid etc)! He just has 7 apps for Spain though.

Yes, he had the bad luck to mature with Casillas still in his prime. We'll see what we'll see in the Eurocup. As long as Casillas is Porto's goalie, he'll probably get the nod.seso wrote:David de Gea is only 26 but he has been having a fantastic career with Atletico Madrid and Man Utd (about 200 apps combined)! As I have written before Kostas Fortounis is having a great season with Olympiacos. He is 23 and he already has 25 apps for Asteras Tripolis, 80 for 1. FC Kaiserslautern, and 60 for Oly. Also 16 apps for Greece. Several big clubs seem to be interested in him and will watch him on Sunday against Panathinaikos.

Manchester United want to sign Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen when David de Gea inevitably thinks “EFF THIS I’M NOT BAILING THESE JOKERS OUT ANY MORE” and does one in the summer.
Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang really, really, really, wants to join either Arsenal or United, honest. But here’s the thing, see, he promised his grandfather that he’d sign for Real Madrid one day, so it’s out of his hands, he’s just going to have to move to the Bernabéu. Honestly, he’d rather it didn’t have to be this way, he’s always dreamt of playing right-back for Louis van Gaal.

Ghanaian Michael Essien signed on June 2015 a two-year contract with Panathinaikos for about 800,000 Euro per year. Since then he has made 12 appearances, i.e. he earned 66,000 E per match!! The club will try to 'release' him in the end of the season.
