(i) the club was sold last winter to new investors and it is said that his relationship with the new owners / President is not at its best.
(ii) Lille furthermore are in a big trouble financially speaking, so maybe he made his opinion that Nice - who is owned by the President of INEOS - had a much brighter future than Lille.
Note that he was Lyon's first choice and he preferred Nice.

By the way, as per L'Equipe, Jocelyn Gourvennec should the new coach of Lille. He had a successful coach experience at Guingamp but failed afterwards at Bordeaux. He has become TV consultant for the last 2 years and this nomination - should it be confirmed - is surprising.
And now Bordeaux is owned by Gerard Lopez one of previous Lille owners if I am not mistaken. A mess.
But regarding Lille, José Fonte renovation at certain point was not good because Lille wanted to cut his paycheck. I think Lille will have a hard time and Gaultier left by the big door as we use to say here. Better leave by his own after a big win than being sacked when things go south (and we went literally south :D ).

Well whoever the new coach of Lille is will have a hard time topping last season's achievement, or even equalling it.

Yes. The success of Lille is at the same time a fantastic achievement (also due to the mediocre season of PSG domestically) but it is also very frustrating because it underlines the fragility of the French club football who sold its soul to the investment funds (well some clubs).

Lille like Monaco in 2017 have a business model based on trading of players. So once the success is there the idea is not to keep players and improve the team but to sell them to make money and start again. Inestment funds are not looking to establish this club on the long term, but to make fast money in 3-5 years.

but this system is just not sustainable.
First because if it's very difficult to make it once it's even more difficult to do it again (you may not make the right choices again and you won't buy at the same price the second time)
Second because the money collected from transfers is not going back to the clubs (only a limited part) but to all the different intermediaries who have interfered somewhere. It is said that out the 85 mios transfer of Osimhen last season to Napoli only 20 mios went back to the club.
and third, namely in Lille's case, when the club is owned by Investment funds who bring themselves a very limited part of the funds but borrow most of the money at high rates, all cash collected from transfers is used to pay the interest to some obscure funds based in Luxembourg (at best).

So at the end it is very likely that Lille will try to sell a maximum of their players because they simply need to.
No need to say that nobody cares about the Champions League anymore.

Welcome to the football business.

The French system is problematic because of the insane taxation that France imposes to the football clubs.

Hasn't anyone posted about King Joffrey Nagelsmann to Bayern? :) That's a huge move!
I'm wondering how he will manage... I quite like Bayern in the CL, so I'm hoping it will do well.

Nope but I think most people know he is their coach. The decision to hire him was taken way back in April.

It seems that Stefan Kuntz (current coach of Germany U21 national team) will be Turkey's new coach.

Interesting choice by Turkish Football Federation.

Welsh Chris Coleman is the new coach of Atromitos.

As a DF he had hundreds of apps for Swansea City, Crystal Palace, Blackburn Rovers and Fulham. He also had 32 apps for Wales.

He has managed Fulham, Real Sociedad, Coventry City, AEL, Wales, Sunderland etc. He led Wales to the SFs of Euro 2016.

It will be his second stint as a manager in Greece, after his brief time at Larissa FC.

Let's see if Atromitos will avoid relegation.

Romania national team finally has a new coach. Previous one's (Mirel Radoi) contract expired at the end of the year but he wasn't interested in extending. The results weren't that great anyway.
So the new coach is Edi Iordanescu son of general Anghel Iordanescu. The general has the best results as coach for the national team. True he had the best generation. His last spell wasn't to great when there were fewer quality players.
Edi Iordanescu has coached a number of teams in the first division. Nothing spectacular, he won a title with CFR (but who wouldn't). Coached this year FCSB but was fired on the whim of the mad owner.

Uruguayan Gustavo Poyet is a the new coach of the Greek national football team. We all remember him playing for Chelsea during 1997-2001! :grin1: He also had 26 apps for the Uruguayan national team. He has managed Brighton & Hove Albion, Sunderland, AEK, Real Betis, Shanghai Shenhua, Bordeaux and Universidad Católica. His best win record as a coach was in AEK (64%)! Let's see if he can repeat that with the Greek national team!

His son, Diego Poyet, had played for Charlton Athletic, West Ham United and Milton Keynes Dons. He had also played for England at under-17 level and for Uruguay at under-20 level.

His father, Washington Poyet, was a Uruguayan basketball player who competed in the 1960 Summer Olympics and in the 1964 Summer Olympics. Poyet introduced basketball to Sunderland academy training sessions, believing it to share many attributes with football, particularly marking!

They did with 3 MDs remaining! They were in positions 13-14 for most of the season.

Adolf Hütter will leave Gladbach after one season. It's said that both sides wanted to end this relationship. Hütter left Eintracht Frankfurt a year ago because he thought Gladbach have more potential. Gladbach paid a 7,5m € clause to get him. According to rumours, Lucien Favre could return to Gladbach. He left the club in 2015 after four successful years.

Markus Weinzierl and FC Augsburg part ways as well.

Stefan Leitl, the coach of Greuther Fürth, joins Hannover 96 and gets a pay rise. Fürth wanted to keep him despite the relegation as the Bundesliga promotion a year ago was an unexpected surprise and the squad the worst in Bundesliga.
