That's because DFL requires an exact date that all involved parties agree on if the time between two matches for one of the teams is above the threshold of 48 hours. The crux is that there ar more than just DFL and both clubs (Hoffenheim allegedly have been very cooperative) but also local authorities, stadium operators, security services (including police) and "countless other services" with a say, according to Köln's Sports CEO Christian Keller. He stated that none of the discussed options (31st Oct, 18th Jan or another mid-week date in early 2023 got green light by all parties involved.

Quite embarassing for one of the biggest sports league on this planet.
Why not accepting a simple match cancellation and then looking for another date - under much less pressure. Next week it had been known how many dates had been avaiable with three months to plan and prepare.
Various leagues in Europe seem to manage that, in some places it's common practice.
Let's see if it doesn't hurt Köln too much on Sunday and also on Thursday, as they must win against OGC to keep their European campaign alive.

I'm pretty sure all kinds of authorities and services need to cooperate in every country to reschedule a match, but it usually happens without too much bureaucracy, they are sort of just informed that it is gonna happen.

Yes, that's pretty clear. The point I tried to emphasise is that here all parties have to agree on a specific date before even cancelling the match - ridiculous. DFL should be able to cancel a match if both clubs agree and then all involved parties could take the time to sort things out together.
It's that threshold of 48 h which let DFL obstainig from ruing in Köln's favor - being afraid of creating precedences for other clubs. Even if Köln-Hoffenheim had been set to kick-off at 15:30 CEST (the most early regular time slot for BL matches on Sunday), it would have not fallen below that line - only by a few minutes. DFL could simply increase the threshold - let's say 60 hours - to avoid such issues.
There will always be enough room for rescheduling matches from autumn to spring, even if we take the additional 2-4 matches from 2024 onwards into account.
I'd guess schedule issues rarely occur in German football because cup matches (beside 1st round and the final) are by default mid-week fixtures and UEFA club qualifiers also didn't interfere much with the schedule. The pandemic period was probably too much and the German Gewohnheitstier seems to be very happy that all the rescheduling mess is over (for now).
The old directive of setting rules and orders over common sense still holds up too often here in Germany.

Lucky win for Dortmund in Frankfurt. Referee Stegemann, the guy from Lazio - Sturm, with another huge mistake. Refused a clear penalty for Eintracht. VAR was sleeping, apparently. Eintracht have to be more clinical in Lisbon. Missed a few sitters.

Leverkusen lost 0-2 in Leipzig, now in relegation zone.

Union Berlin won in the added time and prevented Bayern from retaking the lead of the league, delaying the inevitabile for at least one more week.

Nice choreo by Schalke fans. But they couldn't help their team against Freiburg (0-2). Schalke have the weakest squad in the Bundesliga, along with Bochum. Unmanageable task for the new appointed coach Thomas Reis?

Beg to differ. Considering that half of the German starters, Frankfurt, Freiburg, Union and Köln were not really your usual European suspects, having 7/8 in the KO stages is likely more A- than B+.

The big feat for German clubs was both Eintracht and Leverkusen surviving in the Champions League (2nd and 3rd).

Realistically, neither Freiburg nor Union Berlin would finish 4th in their EL Groups.

A new Big 4. Bayern, Dortmund, Leipzig and Frankfurt flexing their muscle in both UCL and Bundesliga. No doubt Leipzig and Frankfurt are the Leverkusen and Schalke from 10 years ago. Freiburg and Union doing it so well in UEL and Bundesliga is also a pleasant surprise but not in the Big 6 yet.
Taking into account the last 10 seasons, in average, Frankfurt and Leipzig are contributing to BL coefficient more than Dortmund. Eintracht Frankfurt is the financial capital of Europe so only the sky is the limit for this club. Leipzig is a plastic club with financial backing from Red Bull. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if Dietrich Mateschitz dead can affect this club as much as Volkswagen scandal did to Wolfsburg when the wolves were at their peak. In no time, the CEO of RB Leipzig have left the club and probably more changes are coming behind the scenes. RB Leipzig could disappear in 5 years.

Well, you forgot one small detail: Leipzig's former CEO Oliver Mintzlaff will be Red Bull's new CEO of 'corporate projects and investments': https://sportsbrief.com/football/27219- ... c-passing/ (the first source in English language I found)

So it sounds like great news from RB Leipzig's view. Their former boss now decides about the big money.
