Almeria won for the first time today (29th game).

I know that they have the record for longest winless streak in La Liga (31, started last season). Is it true that 28 is the longest to start a season?

And Sporting Gijón's record low of 13 points is safe for one more season!

XG analysis

XPts

Surprisingly (to me at least), Barcelona are leading the Xpts table whereas they are currently 8 points behind Real Madrid in real table. The problem however is that Barcelona are not efficient in bot hpenalty areas, but namely in defense, whereas Real Madrid are ultra-efficient in both areas.
Same for Girona and this explains why this team is on the podium instead of being 5th in the XPts table.

Jornada 30 is just about upon us, to wit

Fri. 29 March 2100 Cádiz 1, Granada 0 #18 hosts #19. Scoreless first half in the Nuevo Mirandilla. 15,422 on hand; they see Rubén Navarro break the stalemate at 51'--1-0 in favor of the home team. Huge win for Cádiz, now just two points shy of Celta, which hosts Rayo on Sunday. Granada looks as though they're for the drop.

Sat. 30 March

1400 Getafe 0, Sevilla 1 Sevilla scores off a corner at 5'--either Ramos put it in or it was an own goal by Getafe--0-1. Halftime. 10,139 reported on hand. Sevilla holds on to win.

1615 Almería 0, Osasuna 3 Now maybe Almería will win one at home :!: Arnaaiz at 2' and Bidimir at 9' give the visitors a big advantage. Can Almería come back :?: 10,645 watch Osasuna make it 0-3, as Iker Muñoz scores at 62'. And 0-3 is the final.

1830 Valencia 0, Mallorca 0 Scoreless first half in Mestalla. And also scoreless second half--0-0 the final.

2100 Barça 1, Las Palmas 0 Scoreless first half. Barça playing against 10, as Valles, the Las Palmas goalie, saw a red card for a foul outside the area. Can Barça win it in the second half :?: Yes, by the skin of their teeth. At 60', Raphinha scores what proves to be the winner; assist by Joao Félix. The Canaries had several chances and could have taken home a point or three had they been a bit more "finos."

Sun. 31 March

1400 Celta 0, Rayo 0 #17 hosts #15 Scoreless first half in Balaídos. 21,505 on hand. Game ends scoreless. Celta came very close at 96' as they hit the crossbar.

1615 Girona 3, Betis 2 Both lost last time out. At 35', VAR penalty awarded to Girona; Dovbyk converts at 36'--1-0. At 45'+4', Girona's goalie goes out to pick grapes, and Willian José ties the score with a vaselina--1-1 at the half. At 65', Dovbyk goes one-on-one with Rui Silva and scores to make it 2-1. At 76', Willian José strikes again as Girona fails to clear--2-2. A 92' . . . well, who you gonna call :?: Not ghost-busters. If you're Girona, you call . . . Stuani, who gives Girona the lead and probably the win at 92'. And thus it has come to pass :!:

1830 Alavés 0, Real Sociedad 1 Scoreless first half. At 59', Pacheco heads in a corner to give la Real the lead--0-1. 18,575 reported on hand. The lone goal holds up for la Real.

2100 Real Madrid 2, Athletic Bilbao 0 At 8', Rodrygo scores from the top of the half moon--1-0. And that is the scoring before the half. 72,991 on hand. At 73', it's Rodrygo once more--2-0. That's the final; Atlético Madrid can take back the last CL spot tomorrow with a win at Villarreal.

Mon. 1 April 2100 Villarreal 1, Atlético 2 Can Atleti get back on track :?: Two losses in a row have left them out of the CL spots. At 9', Witsel heads in a corner to get Atleti off to a great start--0-1. And at halftime, it remains 0-1. At 50', it's 1-1, as Sorloth ties it from the outer edge of the area--1-1. At 87', Saúl Níguez scores to give Atleti the lead--1-2. Atleti holds on to win and take back fourth place. 19,679 on hand.

Today, 4 April, the one game not yet played from the first 30 jornadas will be played, to wit

4 April 2000 Granada 0,Valencia 1 Granada comes in deep in relegation territory; while Granada hss not dropped mathematically, it's very unlikely that they will pick up enough points in the last nine games (including today's game) to escape the drop. Valencia would climb to seventh place with a win today. Scoreless first half. Gumbau at 18' and Uzuni at 23' come close, and Granada comes close again at 27', but no joy. At 78', Almeida of Valencia scores what proves to be a winner--0-1 is the final with 15,107 on hand in the Nuevo Los Cármenes.

We've had plenty of seasons with one team barely surpassing the 20-pt mark, but when was the laat time we had 2 of them? Assuming they even reach 20.

Supposedly Almería has deserved more points in several matches, including against the top teams, but I haven't heard the same about Granada.

We'll finally get around to Jornada 31, with all 20 teams having played exactly 30 games, on

Fri. 12 April 2100 Betis 2, Celta 1 Full time. Can Betis get back on track :?: Can Celta stay above the drop :?: 47,344 in the Benito Villamarín see Betis win it. After a scoreless first half, Miranda gives Betis the lead at 53', assisted by Bellerín. At 83', Fekir makes it 2-0, but when Strand Larsen cuts the lead to 2-1 at 83', it's Katy bar the door. But Betis holds on. Betis is one point ahead of Valencia, which plays Monday.

Sat. 13 April

1400 Atlético 3, Girona 1 Will #4 beat #3 :?: At 4', Dovbyk hammers in a cross from short range--0-1. At 33', handball pk awarded to Atleti; converted by Griezmann at 34'--1-1. At 45'+1', Morata assists Correa, who heads in to give Atleti the lead at the half--2-1. At 50', Griezmann makes it 3-1 from in close. And 3-1 is the fiaal.

1615 Rayo 0, Getafe 0 Can Rayo win a lesser derby :?: Scoreless first half in Vallecas. And the game ends 0-0.

1830 Mallorca 0, Real Madrid 1 Will Real drop points, thinking more about Man. City :?: Scoreless first half. At 48', Tchouameni gives el Real the lead--0-1. 23,244 reported on hand. El Real wins it 0-1.

2100 Cádiz 0, Barça 1 Can Cádiz beat The Drop this season :?: Will Barça come in on a high after their CL game at PSG :?: At 37', Joao Félix gives Barça the lead with a chilena--0-1 at the half. Barça holds on to win by the skin of their teeth. Same as Real Madrid, the CL necessities make league games against theoretically week teams a secondary responsibility.

Sun. 14 Abril

1400 Las Palmas 0, Sevilla 2 Can Sevilla win in the Islands :?: At 6', Coco of Las Palmas sees a red card on the "last man" rule. At 43', En-Nesyri heads in to give Sevilla the lead--0-1, now at halftime. 23,698 on hand. Sevilla doesn't ice the win until 93', when Lukébakio makes the final score 0-2.

1615 Granada 2, Alavés 0 Can Granada feed their slim hopes of beating the drop :?: At 8', handball pk awarded to Granada. Uzuni converts at 9'--1-0. At 38', Boyé heads in to make it 2-0 for Granada. Halftime. 13,398 on hand. Granada wins, but still has an almost impossibly steep hill to climb if they're to avoid the drop.

1830 Athletic 1, Villarreal 1 Can Cup-Winner Athletic stay in the fight for a CL spot :?: At 10', pk awarded to Villarreal; Gerard Moreno hits the post with his kick--still 0-0. And still scoreless at halftime. At 46', Villarreal is down to 10 men, as Comesaña sees a red card, At 66', Sancet breaks the ice--1-0 in favor of Athletic. At 93', VAR handball pk awarded to Villarreal, converted by Parejo at 95'--1-1. And that's the final :!:

2100 Real Sociedad 2, Almería 2 The latter comes in on a wing and a prayer. At 30', Embarba gives Almería the lead--0-1 . . . but the lead is short-lived, as Becker ties the score less than two minutes later--1-1. Halftime--great first half :!: 26,520 reported on hand. At 59', Oyarzábal makes it 2-1 for la Real. At 86', red card for Zubeldia of la Real and pk for Embarba, who scores to make it 2-2. And that turns out to be the final score.

Mon. 15 April 2100 Osasuna 0, Valencia 1 Can Valencia hold onto seventh place :?: At 18', Almeida gives Valencia the lead with a shot from the edge of the area--0-1. And it's still 0-1 at the half. 19,480 on hand. At 96', VAR-assisted pk awarded to Osasuna. Budimir takes the pk at 97' and scuffs it badly--Valencia holds on to win.

It is the third defeat in the last 5 matches for Girona, who lost only 3 matches in the previous 26 matches! They still third in La Liga but with only four point over Atletico now: let's see if they will handle to save their CL GS qualification, or if Atletico Madrid will overtake them and Athletic Bilbao will make the miracle to finish in the top 4. It could be an unexpected interesting end of season for the CL GS qualification!

And tomorrow, Jornada 32 begins

Fri. 19 April 2100 Athletic 1, Granada 1 If Athletic is going to have a shot at a CL spot for next season, they can't drop points here :!: At 6', idid Gumbau get his head on the corner or not :?: In any case, the ball ended up in the net--0-1 :!: The lead lasts until 24', when Guruzeta ties it--1-1. Tablas at halftime. And tablas at full time. Not enough for either team, but así es la vida.

Sat. 20 April

1400 Celta 4, Las Palmas 1 Celta needs a win! At 11', Herzog heads in a corner to give the Canaries the lead--0-1. At 37', Aspas ties it for the home team--1-1. Two minutes later, Swedburg gives Celta the lead--2-1. Halftime. 21,256 in Balaídos. At 71', Douvikas makes idt 3-1 for Celta. And at 76', Aspas pretty much puts the win on ice for Celta, as he makes it 4-1. Huge win for Celta :!:

1615 Rayo 2, Osasuna 1 in progress. Rayo needs a win to avoid "Drop Stress." At 29', Moi Gómez gives Osasuna the lead--0-1. Halftime. 12,617 on hand. At 80', Chavarría ties it for Rayo--1-1. And at 84', Isi Palazón scores from way out to give Rayo the lead--2-1 :!:

1830 Valencia 1, Betis 2 Which will finish the season in seventh place :?: Ayoze Pérez gives Betis the lead at 18'--0-1. No change in score and it's halftime. 46,371 on hand. At 66', Pepelu converts a pk to tie the score for Valencia--1-1. At 77', Ayoze Pérez's shot goes in with a bit of help from a deflection--1-2. Betis retakes seventh place.

2100 Girona 4, Cádiz 1 Can Girona finish in the top four :?: Can Cádiz escape the drop :?: At 9', Eric García heads in a corner to give Girona an early lead--1-0. At 22', Iván Martín makes it 2-0. And that's the score at halftime. 12,655 on hand in Montilivi. At 71', Dovbyk would seem to have iced it as his goal makes it 3-0. At 81', Escalante cuts the margin to 3-1, but at 82', Porto scores and it's 4-1 which is the final score.

Sun. 21 April

1400 Getafe 1, Real Sociedad 1 At 13', Barrenetxea scores for la Real with a header--0-1. At 29', Latasa ties it for Getafe with a header--1-1. Goal now attributed to Oscar Rodríguez. Thus it stands at the half. 12,228 on hand. And no goals in the second half--1-1 the final.

1615 Almería 1, Villarreal 2 Can Almería win a home game :?: At 25', Pedraza assists Akhomach, who scores--0-1. At 30', el Choco Lozano heeds in to tie--1-1. Tablas at halftime. At 87', Ramazani sees two yellow cards. At 92', Sorloth scores what looks to be a winner for Villarreal--1-2. And indeed, it is :!:

1830 Alavés 2, Atlético 0 Atleti needs a win to remain at least four points ahead of Athletic. At 15', Benavídez gives Alavés the lead--1-0. And Alavés is ahead at the half--1-0. At 92', Rioja slams in a fantastic volley to ice the win for Alavés.

2100 Real Madrid 3, Barça 2 Full time. El Real comes off eliminating Man. City from the CL. Barça comes off crashing out of the CL against PSG. At 6', Christensen heads in a corner--0-1. At 17', pk awarded to Real, converted by Vini--1-1. Barça lost DeJong to injury toward the end of the half At 69', Fermín López makes it 1-2 for Barça, but Lucas Vázquez at 73' and Bellingham at 91' turn it around in Real's favor.

Mon. 22 April 2100 Sevilla 2, Mallorca 1 Neither wants relegation fear . . . Scoreless at the half in the Sánchez Pizjuán. At 61', En-Nesyri scores with a header to give Sevilla the lead--1-0. At 75', Isaac Romero makes it 2-0 for Sevilla. At 93, Abdón Prats makes it close for Mallorca, but it's too little, too late.
