At this point, both Panathinaikos B and Olympiacos B are in the relegation zone in the Greek second division!

Play-Offs MD4

Lamia - Olympiacos 1-5
Aris - Panathinaikos 0-2
AEK - PAOK 2-2

PAOK................21-4-5......67
AEK.................19-9-2......66
Panathinaikos.....20-5-5......65
Olympiacos........20-3-7......63
Aris.................14-6-10.....48
Lamia...............9-7-14.....34

PAOK remains on top after a dramatic comeback in the derby against AEK, returning from 2-0 down to equalize in the 90th minute. The derby had a lot of tension and the final result leaves PAOK more satisfied and with high morale before their European match.

Panathinaikos overcame the obstacle of Aris and referee Stavrev from North Macedonia, being cynical in their chances and lucky in the ones of Aris and remain very close to the top - 2 matches against Lamia following.

Olympiacos heavily rotated ahead of the European match but had no issues in Lamia. The challenge for Olympiacos remains of course to get wins (perhaps they might need all 4 wins actually) in the 4 remaining derbies if they want to be in the title discussion.

Play-outs MD3:

Atromitos - Panserraikos 1-1
Asteras Tripolis - Kifisia 1-2
Panaitolikos - Volos 0-1
OFI - PAS Giannina 4-0

Atromitos.........7-12-10....33
Asteras Tripolis....9-4-16....31
Panserraikos......7-10-12....31
OFI................6-12-11.....30
Volos................7-7-15....28
Kifisia.............5-10-14.....25
------------------------------------------
Panaitolikos........5-9-15....24
PAS Giannina......3-10-16....19

With the relegation battle heating up, alliances and referees showed up their ugly face this weekend. Asteras Tripolis wasn't in the mood for another gift since Kifisia isn't part of the same "alliance block", but Kifisia has the strongest ally: the AEK-friendly federation. With their star referee Sidiropoulos and VAR favourite Manouchos, they were awarded a non-existent penalty to get a huge win in Tripoli and overtake Panaitolikos.

Panaitolikos is now in the relegation zone after they lost at home to Volos who is flying in the play-outs. Panaitolikos is demanding foreign referees for the resst of their matches seeing that Kifisia and Volos have bigger influence than them in the Federation. Which is ironic given that Panaitolikos is part of the same block, just a less useful part for the powers who decide.

PAS is also shouting about the refereeing after a very strict direct red card condemned them in Heraklion. PAS' hopes are mostly mathematical now, given their weakness in and out of the pitch.

Both Panathinaikos goals were gifts from Brabec actually.

AEK-PAOK Highlights:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwgXUjJ0aRU

PAOK just refused to lose and got a 'statement draw'.

The game was generally bad, both teams trying to minimize risk and avoid mistakes.

AEK scored an amazing goal from a counter in the first half, made it 2-0 through a tragic mistake by Kotarski, and then ... disappeared.
This is the 10th game this season, where AEK scores first and can't win.

In fact, after making it 2-2 in the 90th minute, PAOK continued playing offensively to completely turn it around.

AEK looks to be in bad shape and, for the first time this season, they'll have to play under pressure.

Scoreboard:
https://www.slgr.gr/en/scoreboard/

With all 4 contenders within 4 points the title race is wide open.

Schedule:
https://www.slgr.gr/en/schedule/22/141/232432/

AEK has 2 games vs. Aris coming up and Panathinaikos plays twice vs. Lamia.

PAOK and Olympiakos have two games for the ECL vs Brugge and Fenerbahce respectively, since next week's game between them has been postponed.

Historic Panionios (founded in 1891, 5th in top division participations after the big 4, played in Europe a few times in the 21st century) was promoted from the 3rd to the 2nd division yesterday. They were directly relegated from the Super League to the 3rd division instead of the 2nd 4 years ago in order to start over without the mounting debts, and finally they are back to the professional divisions. A team that always had something to offer for a minnow.

Another team promoted from the 3rd to the 2nd division is Kavala who had a brief stint in the Super League in 2009-10 and 2010-11 under famous gangster Makis Psomiadis, who brought in big names, caused many upsets against several big 5 teams, finished 6th and 7th and got relegated to the 4th division when Psomiadis was caught for match-fixing and went into hiding in North Macedonia.

The 3rd promotion ticket is a duel between Korinthos, a team with a few top division seasons in the 80s and 90s, funded by known clown lawyer ex-Larisa, PAS and Panachaiki owner Kougias (also a vice-president of Olympiacos now) and Panargeiakos (no seasons in the top division). The 4th is between some totally unkown teams because the Groups are determined by geography and this part of Greece doesn't have many notable teams (or money).

Speaking of teams with European seasons in the 21st century, what happened to Egaleo? Do they exist, in some incarnation?

Egaleo (Αιγάλεω in Greek) has been playing in the second division since 2021-22. The last time they competed in the first division was 2006-07.
They play against Pana B on Thursday.

Play-Offs MD5

Panathinaikos - Lamia 3-1
AEK - Aris 2-0
PAOK - Olympiacos postponed

AEK.................20-9-2......69
Panathinaikos.....21-5-5......68
PAOK................21-4-5......67 (-1 match)
Olympiacos........20-3-7......63 (-1 match)
Aris.................14-6-11.....48
Lamia...............9-7-15.....34

AEK and Panathinaikos expectedly beat Aris and Lamia and with the derby between the 2 clubs continuing in the ECL QF postponed, they climb in 1st and 2nd place for now.

Play-outs MD4

Volos - Atromitos 2-2
PAS Giannina - Asteras Tripolis 0-1
Kifisia - Panaitolikos 0-1
Panserraikos - OFI 2-2

Atromitos.........7-13-10....34
Asteras Tripolis...10-4-16....34
Panserraikos......7-11-12....32
OFI................6-13-11.....31
Volos................7-8-15....29
Panaitolikos........6-9-15....27
------------------------------------------
Kifisia.............5-10-15.....25
PAS Giannina......3-10-17....19

PAS is relegated (it will be mathematically confirmed next week) after failing to win a half-assed Asteras, wasting many chances and losing in added time. An overall terrible season comes to a bitter end for PAS.

Panaitolikos gets the 6-pointer win against Kifisia and their fate is in their hands now, they just need 7 points against unmotivated opponents, which is very doable. Kifisia will have to hope that someone will help them now.

The 1st promoted team is Levadiakos (will be confirmed mathematically next week), immediately returning to the Super League after dominating the North Group of the 2nd Division.

Postponed PAOK-Olympiacos for May 1st should be postponed again as well as MD 9 scheduled for May 8th as all games have to be played at the same time in the last two MDs. MD 10 date is May 12th and cup final is May 18th
AFAIK but not sure PAOK - Olympiacos has to be played before MDs 9 and 10 so what would make sense is schedule it for May 12th, MD 9 May 15th, MD 10 May 19th and Cup Final on May 25th.
The problem here is that AEK cannot use their home stadium vs Lamia in the last MD since it will have been delivered to UEFA for ECL final.

The FA also said that they have no plans on rescheduling the final even if Oly and/or PAOK advanced to the semis and that league games can be played after the final!!
But I think that the cup final broadcaster who also has Olympiakos, Panathinaikos, AEK and Lamia home games as well as UECL semis will help resolving the situation.

In Greece the two broadcasters have a very big impact not only on the schedule but even on deciding the league format mainly by threatening not to offer TV contracts to the minnows. Rumors are that plans of playoffs 1-4, 5-8, 9-14 instead of the current 1-6, 7-14 proposed three years ago, which appear again today, were boycotted by them since they didn't want to miss the 4 extra playoff games. (Even if these games are currently against Aris and Lamia who has nothing to play for, it's better for them to have the 12 top 4 games against one another spread over 10 MDs instead of 6)

In what was the most important game of the MD (Olympiakos-PAOK), the head ref decided on assigning a useless inexperienced Portuguese clown (Miguel Nogueira).

The Portuguese FA sent a ref they don't even trust with any game remotely as important, with the corresponding VAR and assistant refs to boot.

There's no point discussing the bad game that ensued.

Both Olympiakos goals came about from gifts from the refs.

Comparing this to AEK-PAOK (2:2, ref was Tobias Stieler from Germany) is like comparing different sports.

Play-Offs MD6

Lamia - Panathinaikos 0-5
Aris - AEK 1-2
Olympiacos - PAOK 2-1

AEK.................21-9-2......72
Panathinaikos.....22-5-5......71
PAOK................21-4-6......67 (-1 match)
Olympiacos........21-3-7......66 (-1 match)
Aris.................14-6-12.....48
Lamia...............9-7-16.....34

Olympiacos despite resting 8/10 outfield players from the starting 11 of the Thursday match against Fenerbahce beats PAOK (also playing in Thursday but less rotated) at home with their most convincing derby so far and stays alive in the title race. Mendilibar trusted his bench players and the ones who didn't make the European list and they delivered him a relatively comfortable victory with PAOK (probabably physically and mentally drained from the European elimination, I haven't seen them that poor in a derby this year) only scoring in added time. PAOK falls to 3rd even if they win the match in hand, and both teams contiune their bizarre statistic of having 0 clean sheets in 9 derbies!

AEK dominated Aris as expected and despite Aris taking the lead, bombarded them with chances and turned the match aroung. It's common knowledge that Aris would rather anyone win it apart from PAOK and they didn't look that bothered from the defeat. Panathinaikos had a training session in Lamia and go to face AEK away on Wednesday hoping to climb on top for the 1st time since January.

Play-outs MD5

OFI - Volos 2-0
Atromitos - Kifisia 1-2
Asteras Tripolis - Panaitolikos 0-2
Panserraikos - PAS Giannina 2-1

Panserraikos......8-11-12....35
OFI................7-13-11.....34
Atromitos.........7-13-11....34
Asteras Tripolis...10-4-17....34
Panaitolikos........7-9-15....30
Volos................7-8-16....29
------------------------------------------
Kifisia.............6-10-15.....28
PAS Giannina......3-10-17....19

Kifisia and Panaitolikos got the expected away wins against Atromitos and Asteras - never forget that in Greece, the already saved teams will usually lose to the ones fighting. Kifisia was a clear favourite for the bookmakers for exaple. Volos lost to OFI who wasn't safe yet and are drawn in the battle too. Kifisia is expected to win their last 2 matches against PAS and Panserraikos, so Volos needs 6 points as well (against the same opponents) and Panaitolikos needs 4 (against Atromitos at home and OFI away).

Both confirmed mathematically.

Unless someone already safe decides to stop Volos or Panetolikos, Kifisia can get 6 points and still get relegated. Asteras plays Atromitos and OFI so with draws these three will be 100% safe, I think only Asteras is mathematically safe from those at 34.

In South group in 2nd division Kalithea, who rebranded to Athens Kalithea FC and got a new crest that has nothing to do with the previous one, is 6 points clear with 3 games to go.

Some date changes:

The postponed PAOK-Olympiacos play-off round match will be played on May 12th.

Interesting set of consecutive matches for Oly:
12 May: PAOK-Oly
15 May: Oly-AEK
19 May: Pana-Oly

The league will be completed on May 19th.

The Panathinaikos-Aris Cup final will be played on May 25th (2.5 months after completion of the semi-finals)!

Play-Offs MD7

Lamia - PAOK 1-1
Aris - Olympiacos 1-1
AEK - Panathinaikos 3-0

AEK.................22-9-2......75
Panathinaikos.....22-5-6......71
PAOK................21-5-6......68 (-1 match)
Olympiacos........21-4-7......67 (-1 match)
Aris.................14-7-12.....49
Lamia...............9-8-16.....35

AEK have one hand on the trophy after a dominant performance against Panathinaikos, a 3-0 win, and the double suicide of Olympiacos and PAOK.

AEK has already won the match against Lamia in the last matchday, so they need 2 points total in the away derbies against Olympiacos and PAOK or Panathinaikos not to win all 3 matches.

Olympiacos and PAOK who managed not to beat Aris and Lamia, can only hope they both beat AEK and Panathinaikos (and each other).

PAOK committed suicide (1-1 @ Lamia), Olympiakos drew with Aris (1-1) and AEK thrashed Panathinaikos at home (3-0).

AEK has a comfortable lead over everyone now:
https://www.slgr.gr/en/scoreboard/

They'll be champions again more likely than not (>80%).

Even if they lose the next 2 games (@ PAOK on Sunday and @ Olympiakos), winning at home vs. Lamia they'll have 78 points.
Plus they come out on top even if they're level with Panathinaikos on points.

So Panathinaikos, PAOK or Olympiakos each needs to win all their remaining games even in that scenario to clinch the title.
Very unlikely, since all 3 will be motivated to avoid 4th place.
