Farewell to a huge part of AC Milan and italian football history: a champion, inside and outside the field...

Always sad when this thread is bumped.
Carlos Alberto passed away at the age of 72. One of the full backs of all time (old fashioned Brazilian fullback), scorer of that wonderful goal in the final of the 1970 WC. The eternal captain. RIP.

RIP Carlos Alberto, great man and great player. Being the captain of arguably the best team ever with Pele, Gerson, Rivelino, Jairzinho...I still see his goal like 46 years ago...

Hans Schäfer has passed away aged 90. So from the 1954 WC winner team (the famous "wonder of Bern"), only Horst Eckel is still alive. He is 85.
R.I.P. Hans. Legend!

I was in Barcelona in 1974 where I watched the World Cup Final on live television. At 43', Gerd Muller--called "Torpedo" and "Cazagoles" ("Goal Hunter") by the Spanish announcers and press--scored the winner. I still have a mental "picture" of the turning move that Cazagoles made to shake free and score.

Sad to hear that Bernard Tapie dies aged 78
Imho Olympique Marseille (and Milan at that time) was one of the best ever european clubs. There was something very exceptional in them.

Blue are the streets and all the trees are too.
I have a girlfriend and she is so blue.

I remember that Marseille-Milan game of 1991 in quarter second leg was a fantastic game.

For the record, my father was behind the goal for the Waddle goal, I was a toddler (No he didn't cut the lights off )
Sad years for my OM since COVID, two head figures (Pape Diouf, Tapie), Monsieur Michel Hidalgo, and many fans...
This Marseille-Milan game truly belongs to my list of legendary games I have the chance to watch. The very very high level.
Nice to hear about your father attending this game.
Totally off topic, but believe me or not, I was in the Velodrome when OM played Benfica in the semi-final 1990. Not that I was supporting Marseille, but for the story my brother was student at Marseille at that time, I was visiting him (the only time I've been to Marseille I think) and we decided to go to the game. It was much easier to get tickets at that time.
Coming back to Tapie's years I also remember a superb Rangers-OM game in 1993 under the rain (technically it may have been played in Autumn 92 but it was the 1992/93 season for sure).

Horst Eckel, the last surviving member of Germany's 1954 World Cup-winning squad, has died at the age of 89.
Rest in Peace, Horst.

I assume each and every squad member from the 1930's WC's has passed away. But I wonder if there are still survivors from 1950 or 1954. I've only heard of Ghiggia and Eckel as last surviving finalists, but what about the rest of the squads? Is there any info?
