Tennis

Post by SirHenri »

Anyone interested in tennis ?

French Open just running, and I made an overview about nations still active in the Round of 32 in the women's event, which actually is the best german result ever in any Grand Slam. A bit selfish, I know, but hey, we had not much to celebrate the last 20 years. (I've skipped the men's results, maybe a french member wants to sum up, I counted 5 players already :-))

Code: Select all

AUS 1 (Stosur)
BEL 1 (Van Uytvanck)
BLR 1 (Azarenka)
BUL 1 (Pironkowa)
SRB 1 (Ivanovic)
SWI 1 (Bacsinszky)
UKR 1 (Svitolina)
CRO 2 (Vekic, Lučić-Baroni)
CZE 2 (Kvitova, Safarova)
ESP 2 (Muguruza, Suarez-Navarro)
FRA 2 (Cornet, Mladenovic)
ROU 2 (Begu, Mitu)
ITA 3 (Errani, Schiavone, Pennetta)
RUS 3 (Sharapova, Vesnina, Makarova)
USA 4 (Williams, Keys, Falconi, Stephens)
GER 5 (Petkovic, Goerges, Lisicki, Kerber, Beck)
In addition, Anna-Lena Friedsam almost beat Serena in R64, which would have been the surprise of the decade. In the end, she won a set and 11 games, but lost the match. And Witthoeft made a similar match vs. Errani, but lost in 3 as well. Two new youngsters to keep an eye on.

Biggest surprise so far Mirjana Lučić-Baroni who eleminated world's No.3 Simona Halep in straight sets. And the other croatian girl Donna Vekic is the only play from outside the Top 100 who reached R32. She climbed 44 places already.

And for the home fans : Mladenovic eleminating Top-Ten-Player & Starlet Bouchard and enters R32 as well.

I am not too focused on tennis but I follow Svitolina
German representation is down to at least 4 since BEck has just lost to Elina. However it was more tough than I expected, though easier then vs Putintseva in R64

BTW it's more like 15 years, not 20 :) Graf has retired in 99..

In 1997 and 1998 she had her downs, but right, in 1999 she won her last Grand Slam...in Paris :-)

Beck took out Radwanska in the first match, so I had my hopes vs. Svitolina. The match went up and down, Beck lead 3-1 in the third, but in the end 6-4 for Svitolina. Congrats :-)

Now Lisicki in play, tough match vs. No.13 Safarova. 3-4 break down atm.

Beating Radwanska is not spezial anymore. This Year she is top30 in the race but more because of easier draws because of high Position (which she deserved over years). She is Playing no top 50level.
It's no big surprise.Petkovic(10seed),Kerber(11), Lisicki(20) and Goerges was Top 15level and it's only the 3rd Round.
It looks like only Goerges win her 3rd Round match(she plays now
falconi and leading 1-0sets). All other are out.
So in the last 16 only 1player with 10,11 and 20seed.
I think the Germans hoped for better Performance.

I surprised the Czech have only 2 in llast 32 and 16. They are the raising Nation with Kvitova,Safarova, Pliskova,Hradecka,Cetkovska, etc...

Today Serena vs. Azarenka :)

I jinxed them, horrible R32, only Goerges survived

Code: Select all

BEL 1 (Van Uytvanck)
ESP 1 (Muguruza)
FRA 1 (Cornet)
GER 1 (Goerges)
ROU 1 (Mitu)
SRB 1 (Ivanovic)
SWI 1 (Bacsinszky)
UKR 1 (Svitolina)
CZE 2 (Kvitova, Safarova)
ITA 2 (Errani, Pennetta)
RUS 2 (Sharapova, Makarova)
USA 2 (Williams, Stephens)
So we have an extremely balanced field, 12 nations in action, no one has more than 2 girls in play.

Nope, "just" the final. That was the greatest german success since 1999 Graf.

Serena stroke back, won the 2nd set and is leading now 3-2
edit and won 6-2

Terrible Jinx, now all germans out, no quarterfinal, what started promising came out as a little disaster :?

However, the great games, especially in the men's event are coming. Djoker facing Nadal as soon as in the quarters, Tsonga will be worth watching with the crowd behind him.

Djokovic- Nadal 3-2 (wish: 0-6,0-6,0-6 :-)) ( played Wed.and Thurd.)
Murray-Ferrer 3-2( 14-12 in 5th)
Nishikori- Tsonga 6-2,6-2, 3-0. ret. ( finish Tuesday)
Federer- Wawrinka 3-2 ( 6-0 in 5th)

1/2: Djokovic- Murray 3-2 (18-16 in 5th) ( finish Saturday )
Nishikori - Federer w.o.

Final; Nishikori -Djokovic 3-2 (8-6 in 5th)

Thats the only chance that Djokovic dont win it.
He is clear Favoriten and I think he beat Nadal something like 6-2,6-2,6-4.
All other games are very open which is advantage for Djokovic because the 1/2 and Final oponnent will be tired.

Nice :-)

Do you watch now Muguruza-Safarova?
Muguruza beat Serena last year and she is only one who could and would beat Serena.

I like Erranis fighting spirit but against Serena she has no weapen and very weak serve.

Serena servinge starts with big advantage for Serena.
Errani serving starts with big advantage for Serena.

1/4 Serena- Errani 6-1,6-0
Baszcinsky-uytvanck 2-0
Ivanovic-svitolina 2-0
Muguruza-Safarova 2-0

1/2:
Serena-baszczinsky 2-0
Muguruza-Ivanovic 2-1

Final - Muguruza-Serena 2-0

Forgot about Baszczinsky :-)
