Arouca first beat Heracles (on away goals after 2 draws) in a match between 2 clubs never playing in Europe before. And that also makes Heracles the only Dutch club that never lost a match in Europe so far. :grin1:

Earlier this season in EL - knocked out Besiktas and went out to AC Milan in the playoffs to the GS.

That is what I called a hangover.
3-0 in 1st leg for Arouca. Next sunday will be the last nail in Rio Ave's coffin.
Funny enough Arouca got relegated on the season they played in Europa League (16/17) - knocked out ET vs Olympiacos.

Watch out Pacos and Santa Clara for next season
Paços de Ferreira in the first european season (2007/08 Uefa cup) ended in relegation zone (15th out of 16) but remained due to the relegation of Boavista in Apito Dourado (corruption process that several years later was declared null due to a technaility, reason they were re-instored in Primeira Liga some years ago).
In 2nd european season, they ended in 10th.
In 3rd european season (CLPO) they finished again in 15th of 16 teams, but since there was an expansion of the league (inclusion of Boavista), they played a play-off against Aves and they won, so they remained in 1st level).

Plus Paços de Ferreira saw his very good coach going to V. Guimarães and have Jorge Simão back. After he left Paços de Ferreira, he did well at Chaves for a few months (although the coach that replaced him managed to do even better) but never had success in any team (Braga, Boavista, Saudi Arabia, Mouscron). They might try to recycle him like they have done with Paulo Fonseca, but he is not Paulo Fonseca.

Santa Clara has pretty good players and I see lots of clubs wanting them. It will be hard for them.

I am pretty sure that Strasbourg got relegated during a season in which they were playing in Europe.

Possibly Hertha too.

Ah yes :D . Portuguese teams have a tendency to knocking out Dutch teams in away goals :wink1:

I guess these also means Arouca has never won a European match as even though they went to ET vs Olympiacos after winning 0-1 in Greece in 90, after ET they lost 2-1.

When do you think Heracles will have their chance again to extend their record?

As we have seen this season no is safe from relegation - except for the obvious big 4 plus Vitoria. Everyone else is at risk. Probably at the beginning of the season I would have included Rio Ave in the non relegation team as their results in the past years have shown but... here we are. I do wonder how much it will affect their project.

That can take some time. They are a regular mid-table team, but I can't see them qualifying for Europe soon again.

Connah's Quay Nomads were Welsh champions in 2019–20 and 2020–21. They were eliminated by Sarajevo and by Dinamo Tbilisi in 2020-21 CL and EL respectively, as well as by Alashkert and by Prishtina in 2021-22 CL and ECL respectively.
They are currently in 11th position this season and prime candidates for relegation.

Pelister will get relegated, so the eternal derby of Macedonia will be played in the second league next season. :grin1:

Has any country ever had bigger attendance in the second league than in the first one in the past?

St Johnstone have went from cup double winners to fighting relegation on one season in Scotland. They have already been knocked out of both cups.

Legia Warszawa and Śląsk Wrocław, who participated in Europe this season, are just above the relegation zone in Poland. Wisła Kraków and Zagłębie Lubin, who played in Europe couple of years ago, are also involved in the battle.

They survived in the end. Barry Town United was relegated instead.

Académica de Coimbra, (Coimbra University Students Association) an historic club from Portugal who played in EL in 2012-13 (after winning previous edition of Portuguese Cup) relegated to 3rd tier after long years in 2nd tier.

In Netherlands Willem II still played EL last season and are now sitting on a relegation spot with 5 matches left.

KF Feronikeli, which played in Europe in 2019/20 season, relegated to second division in Kosovo, with just 12 points collected in 30 matches so far.
