EL Quarter Finals 2017/18

Post by Lorric »

This is up next.

For my perfect draw, Lazio have taken this competition seriously in the past even before the CL, so they or that dark horse Leipzig can be fed to Atletico. Next best thing is to feed them to each other. After them I think I'd like Sporting to be the next one, pit these four against each other in some configuration or other and I'd be most pleased.

For Arsenal, the obvious choice would seem to be Salzburg. After that, while I was impressed with what they did to Bilbao, Wenger has a good track record with French teams, though I'm not sure how well that's held up in recent years. And that of course leaves the Russians. Ideally Arsenal get Salzburg, leaving another tasty clash between France and Russia...

Hey, we don't especially want Lazio either :!: Seems to me we met back in 2000, with a bad result for Atleti.

Leipzig - Marseille. Hard draw, but at least not Atletico. 50:50. I wanted Sporting.

Good draw for Lazio, but Salzburg are a very good team, so it won't be easy at all.

If i look at the whole draw, i don't like it.

No Red Bull derby or Salzburg - CSKA, or CSKA - Sporting, or Sporting - Salzburg.

The teams from the "sub-top" countries were not lucky. They all avoided each other, and now they will face Arsenal, Atletico and Lazio :!:

Well do I remember 2010. I watched Atleti beat Galatasaray on television in the Alvalade in Lisboa, prior to the Sporting-Everton game (Sporting won 3-0 to KO Everton). Then watched both Atleti-Sporting and Sporting-Atleti in our apartment in Oviedo--0-0 in the Calderón, then 2-2 in the Alvalade. In the second game, el Kun Agüero scored, then Sporting tied, then el Kun Agüero scored, then Sporting tied, then . . . onward on away goals :!:

Would love to attend either leg of Atleti vs Sporting, but not gonna happen. :(

Second thought: Arsenal - CSKA Moskva is tasty, considering the diplomatic war between Russia and GB.

The relations between the two countries are poisoned at the moment. :amstupid:

Wow English-Russian pairing after this recent political crisis. That will be tense. Especially in Moscow.
