Very thrilling final of second division these days. Before the final matchday on friday the standing between Austria Klagenfurt and SV Ried is as follows:

1. SV Ried 61 (64:39)
2. Austria Klagenfurt 61 (59:35)

After the same amount of points, goal difference is the deciding factor. Both Ried and Klagenfurt play at home on the final matchday, Ried hosts FAC and Klagenfurt Wacker Innsbruck.

The past few weeks have been a rollercoaster, especially for Ried. After the corona-break they were comfortable leaders of second division with a 8-point advantage and 11 matchdays to go. They looked like promotion was only routine for them. But they struggled a lot, scoring only 16 points out of 10 games after the break, while Klagenfurt played excellent with 24 points. So the table turned upside-down. Last week Klagenfurt looked comfortable with a 3-point lead and only 2 matchdays left.
Even the games itself on 29th matchday were really curious. Ried played in Horn and after 70 minutes they were down 2-1 and had a red card. But Ried managed to turn the match around and scored 2 goals with 10 players. At the same time Klagenfurt played in Amstetten. Klagenfurt was the better side but until the end it was only 1-1. In 82th minute Klagenfurt got a penalty but only hit the post. 5 minutes later Amstetten got a penalty and converted. You also must not forget Ried won against Innsbruck the matchday before 4-3 with scoring the winning goal in 90+4 minute.

So it really has been a rollercoaster for Ried. Last matchday they have an easier opponent with FAC, but the pressure is big, it‘s a “do-or-die“ game for Ried. They definitely have to manage promotion, they have some quite expensive players and can‘t afford playing another year in second division. Another year in second division and they‘d have to cut their budget drastically short and promotion would get much more difficult the next years. Two important players of Ried are missing against FAC and with a big win Klagenfurt could take the lead back. A 3-0 win for them would be enough if Ried only wins 1-0.

Nothing decided yet, they are looking desperatedly for sponsors and sources of income. Yesterday it was announced that also their coach Ponweiser has left the club. Their situation is hopeless, it looks like everyone is leaving a sinking ship. If Mattersburg disappears completely it is likely that WSG Tirol stays in Bundesliga, Ried or Klagenfurt are getting promoted to Bundesliga and Rapid Wien II gets promoted to second division.

Btw, tomorrow we have a thrilling final of second division. Ried and Klagenfurt have the same amount of points and also their GD is nearly similar.

I would say the situation for Klagenfurt now is close to hopeless. Their only hope: Ried is weak this time. Klagenfurt all lost it last week (about 20 mins to the end they were already 6 points ahead of Ried). They already wasted 4 important penalties this year and were very unlucky with the ref concerning gifted penalty for Ried 3 rounds ago. In the last match Klagenfurt conceeded a penalty 3 min to the end which defenitely was no one (dive) and they even missed one penalty in the same match some minutes before. VAR would have brought them to top level. They have to win by one more goal than Ried (home vs FAC) and Klagenfurt (home vs Wacker Innsbruck).

Yes, before Corona Ried looked very comfortable and dominant but after the break they played foolishly and are very lucky to be in the position they are right now.

Btw if Ried wins 1-0 against FAC, Klagenfurt needs a 3-0 win against Innsbruck and so on, so 2 goal difference because Ried has scored more goals overall

From what I saw last week against FSV it won't be easy (two extremly limited teams  ), but maybe FAC can do something in Ried. It think this is the only possibility, as I don't see Austria winning 6:0 or something.

6 minutes played and SV Ried is already leading 2-0 against FAC :applause:

And 3-0 after 10 minutes, it looks like nothing can stop the return of SV Ried to Bundesliga :applause:

5:0 at halftime...

FAC has been "relegated" from second league 5 times in last 6 seasons.

FAC is like a cat, they have seven lifes and never get relegated from second division    But it‘s nice to have them in second division, the “third power of Vienna“ behind Rapid and Austria. They have a really small stadium in Floridsdorf, a working and rather “poor“ district of Vienna. It‘s always a nice atmosphere at FAC and a huge contrast to Rapid and Austria, you can just stand a few meters beside the pitch with a beer and Käsekrainer and enjoy the game. Somehow like a village-club in Vienna.

Now we have some action, after 75 minutes:

Ried - FAC 8:0
Klagenfurt - Innsbruck 5:1

I went to Floridsdorf once by mistake, I had been to Vienna a few times but they had changed the tram numbering system and instead of going around Vienna it went into the suburbs. There were only a few people left on the tram and none of them seemed to understand any German, unless it was just my bad German, they looked like they were Asian so I tried English and they told me I just had to wait and the tram would go back to the centre.

Cats have 9 lives in England, so if they run out of lives there they could move to England

@SimonB: Yeah, it‘s quite a long ride with the tram to Floridsdorf, about 35-40 minutes from the center of Vienna. They changed the numbers of the trams a couple of years ago, so that‘s definitely true. In Floridsdorf there live a lot of people from Yugoslavian countries, so you often hear other languages than german :)

Btw Austria Klagenfurt are quite pissed of FAC and made some statements in the newspapers. But it‘s very understandable, losing 9-0 looks very questionable and the best players of FAC were already on vacation instead of playing in Ried. So the 6-1 against Wacker Innsbruck wasn‘t enough for Klagenfurt, another year in second division. Next season there is expected to be a duell between Wacker Innsbruck and Austria Klagenfurt for promotion.

"League deprives itself of credibility"
The managers of Austria Klagenfurt around partner Z. Karajica have decided after an internal analysis of the events on the last match day of the 2. Liga to officially protest and ask the ÖFBL to investigate the incidents.
The behavior of the FAC was "a farce, a disgrace", but so far there is no opinion from the ÖFBL. “We haven't heard a statement from the league, nothing, nothing at all,” the Austria boss is annoyed and assures: “If the officials believe that life goes on normally, they are wrong. You can be sure that we will use all possibilities. Because that's not how it works, the case has to be worked up. "
The Klagenfurt shareholder also recalls that during the Corona break during the club conferences, when voting on the resumption of the league, all club officials had undertaken to do everything possible to end the season sports wise. “This includes fielding the best team until the final whistle and thus ensuring fair competition. It has been proven that this has not happened, on the contrary: what the FAC has done is a blatant form of distortion of competition! ”

Yesterday the ÖFBL responded and put in promising to change the rule of goal difference to direct encounter of opponents in question. But this is not enough. FAC has to be punished with at least 5 points minus for the new season. This is a much more serious thing than the LASK case.

SV Mattersburg exists no more, as expected the club gets completely dissolved.

So WSG Tirol stays in Bundesliga and SK Rapid Wien II gets promoted to second division.

@Club-Mate: C‘mon, Ried - FAC is more serious than “LASK-Corona-Gate? :?: :| You could say that Klagenfurt - Innsbruck was also very questionable in second half, but strangely nobody seems to care. FAC has no debts to Klagenfurt, so it‘s their thing how they play the last game. Maybe some players are leaving the club, so why fielding them in a last, unimportant (for FAC) game and not giving young players a chance. I don‘t like this behaviour of the officials from Klagenfurt, just some aggressive men who seem to have a need to prove themselves. I am glad that Ried got promoted.
