You are welcome! :smile1:
I would add that not in every country the calendar is the same. Some play in the civil year, from January to december (more or less) while others are from August to june (like in europe with the winter leagues and the others).
I read tha Japan used to have this same system.

Spanish wikipedia has an article about this that seems updated. The english version has some more historical information but seems out of date.

I've heard about him, but knew nothing about his career. He's awesome, Maradona was right.

Leagues Cup 2024 Unveils New Tournament Format and Groups for Second Edition of MLS vs LIGA MX Competition

https://www.leaguescup.com/news/leagues ... dition-of-

Major League Soccer (MLS) and LIGA MX announced the format and groups for Leagues Cup 2024, the second edition of the international soccer competition featuring all 47 clubs from Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The month-long tournament, which will crown a winner among MLS and LIGA MX clubs, will unfold from July 26 to August 25, 2024, setting the stage for historic and emerging North American club rivalries.

Leagues Cup 2024, to be played in the United States and Canada, will decide three qualifiers for the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup in which the winner will represent the region at the FIFA Club World Cup. This innovative club tournament has redefined soccer tournament competition, showcasing the best talent in North America and the intensity of the competition.

Leagues Cup 2024 Format

Moving forward, the tournament will introduce a tiered Leagues Cup Ranking system, as well as hubs for the highest-ranked LIGA MX clubs. The Leagues Cup ranking will be strictly based on combined MLS and LIGA MX club performance based on points in the last 34 regular season matches. MLS teams will be ranked based on the 2023 MLS Supporters’ Shield standings, while LIGA MX clubs will be ranked based on the cumulative 34 matches in the 2023 Clausura and Apertura tournaments.

Image

All participating clubs – except the two Leagues’ champions - are divided into three tiers based on the Leagues Cup Ranking (1-15, 16-30, 31-45), forming 15 groups of three clubs each, one club from each tier, prioritizing geographical and competitive balance among the 45 clubs. For 2024, Leagues Cup will be played in two regions, East and West, with seven groups in the East and eight groups in the West, regionalizing travel for all participating clubs. Like the 2023 format, both LIGA MX and MLS Cup champions, Club America and Columbus Crew respectively, receive an automatic bye to the Round of 32. The two champions are not included in the Leagues Cup Ranking.

The LIGA MX Champion and the three top-ranked LIGA MX clubs will be granted hub privileges. The hub privileges, which will minimize LIGA MX club travel and reward them by playing in pre-determined venues as the home team, are based on the Leagues Cup Ranking. Club America (League champion with a bye) will have hosting privileges through the semifinals, C.F. Monterrey (No. 1 rank) through Round of 16, Chivas Guadalajara (No. 4 rank) through Round of 32, and Tigres (No. 6 rank) throughout the Group Stage, rewarding the clubs according to their 2023 Apertura and Clausura performances.

LIGA MX clubs with hub privileges will play at venues to be announced alongside the Leagues Cup 2024 schedule and bracket at a later date.

Image

This new format, based on the Leagues Cup Ranking, was a joint collaborative effort of the Leagues Cup Organizing Committee, comprising representatives from Leagues Cup, and both MLS and LIGA MX leadership. Considerations included rewarding regular season results and geographical regions while addressing learnings from 2023.

Knockout Rounds: Following the Group Stage, the advancing 30 teams will be joined by LIGA MX and MLS cup champions (Columbus Crew and Club America, respectively) and will be placed in a fixed bracket to compete in the single-game elimination Knockout Rounds beginning with the Round of 32 (16 matches), followed by Round of 16 (eight matches). The eight advancing teams will compete in the Quarterfinals (four matches) before the two Semifinal matches. Leagues Cup 2024 Third Place and Final will determine the three Concacaf Champions Cup qualified clubs.

No Ties: Leagues Cup will maintain its current No Ties format. Each team receives one point if the game is tied after 90 minutes. The winner of the subsequent penalty shootout will earn an additional point. Regulation wins count as three points, with games being decided by penalty kick in case of regular time draw.

Fans in over 100 countries and regions will be able to watch all 77 Leagues Cup matches on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app, the subscription service from Apple and Major League Soccer that is available on smart TVs, streaming devices, Apple devices, set-top boxes, game consoles, and the web at tv.apple.com. In addition, TelevisaUnivision, TV Azteca, FOX Sports (FS1), TSN and RDS will be the linear broadcast home for selected group stage matches in Mexico, United States and Canada

Also, congratulations to Al-Ahli Sanaa for winning the Yemen league title yesterday. This is their 11th title, with 4 of them as North Yemen champions, and 7 of them as Yemen champions, the most of any team since the unification of Yemen in 1990. They also qualified for next seasons’s third-tier AFC Challenge League, assuming they get a license to compete.

Does anyone know where I can find an accurate schedule (with kickoff times) for Argentinian football games? I'm going to be in Buenos Aires on March 3rd, 4th & 5th, and I'd like to get to a game or two, if that's possible. Any ideas?

Edit ... having seen some of the ticket prices, I think that this is an idea that can definitely wait until another day!

In Brazil we are playing the State championships before national league.
Corinthians fired their coach after 5 consecutive defeats and risk of relegation to state 2nd division (never happened). They signed with Antonio Oliveira a Portuguese that is been working in Brazil for a quite a few years in a row (not a come and go like most).

The performance got better right in first match. At 3rd match they faced yesterday mighty Palmeiras away. Losing 2-0 at 85', scored at at 87', got the GK sent off at 90' and equalized at 90+10'.

Might be interesting to watch what he will be able to do with this team.

Top nat'l football tournament renamed Korea Cup

https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20240222006451315

SEOUL, Feb. 22 (Yonhap) -- The top national football tournament bringing professional and amateur teams together will be renamed the Korea Cup starting in 2024, the sport's national governing body announced Thursday.

The competition, organized annually by the Korea Football Association (KFA), has been called the FA Cup since its inception in 1996.

The KFA said it wanted to include the name of the country in the tournament, following the example of national competitions in France and Italy. The KFA also said it wanted to avoid confusion with the FA Cup in England.

The tournament format will also change starting this year, and the championship final will go from a two-legged affair to a one-and-done showdown. The semifinals, which used to be played in single legs, will now have two legs.

Starting this year, the final will be played at Seoul World Cup Stadium, considered the holy ground of South Korean football. This decision was inspired by England's move to make the iconic Wembley Stadium the permanent venue of its FA Cup final in 2007.

In other rule changes, the video assistant referee (VAR) will be put in place starting in the quarterfinals. The VAR had only been present in the final at previous tournaments.

The 2024 Korea Cup winner will also qualify for the 2025-2026 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League Elite, the top continental club competition, only if that club also finishes among the top four in the top-flight K League 1.

However, if the Korea Cup champion finishes outside the top four in the K League 1, then the top two clubs from the K League 1 will grab tickets to the AFC Champions League Elite. The third-place team from the K League 1 will advance to the playoff for the AFC Champions League Elite.

In this case, the Korea Cup winner will play in the lower-tier AFC Champions League 2.

This year's Korea Cup will feature 60 teams.

So, assuming neither the title holders of ACLE and ACL2 are from Korea Republic, the following teams will qualify for the 2025/26 AFC club competitions.

If winners of Korea Cup finishes among the top four of K League 1:

ACLE:
Korea Republic 1: Champions of 2024 K League 1 (league stage)
Korea Republic 2: Winners of 2024 Korea Cup (league stage)
Korea Republic 3: Runners-up or 3rd-placed team of 2024 K League 1 (league stage or play-offs, depending on whether Korea Republic finish 1st or 2nd in the East Region ranking at the end of the 2023/24 AFC club season)

ACL2:
Korea Republic 4: 3rd-placed team or 4th-placed team of 2024 K League 1 (group stage)

If winners of Korea Cup finishes outside the top four of K League 1:

ACLE:
Korea Republic 1: Champions of 2024 K League 1 (league stage)
Korea Republic 2: Runners-up of 2024 K League 1 (league stage)
Korea Republic 3: 3rd-placed team of 2024 K League 1 (league stage or play-offs, depending on whether Korea Republic finish 1st or 2nd in the East Region ranking at the end of the 2023/24 AFC club season)

ACL2:
Korea Republic 4: Winners of 2024 Korea Cup (group stage)
