I only actually met a few people from the older generation - but as I live in West London, I see people who work in TV all the time.
I chatted to Garth Crooks at a party; I met Alan Hansen more briefly at the BBC; I played the piano to Claudio Ranieri at an embassy function.
It surprises me I haven't seen more current players just on the streets or in restaurants; but Terry Venables was eating near me in a curry place the other month. A few weeks ago, Gabby Logan was at the next table in a cafe, but I did not recognise her; my girlfriend, who is much better at celebrity-spotting, however did.
