Scotland - Ireland
Ireland qualifies with a win, Scotland need a win by 3 goals or more

Hemp dinks the keeper, but it hits the post.

Ireland get through one on one and it's a great finish passed into the netting behind the post, 0-1!

It's an even better finish than I thought, she was at an angle off to the side, didn't realise by just how much.

0-0 FT. So the Czechs got two draws against the then European Champion Dutch, got an away draw against the World Champions USA in the SheBelieves Cup, and now the new European Champions couldn't beat them on home ground either. I can see why now after having seen them first hand, they're a tough, disciplined team.

0-1 FT. Ireland are going to their first ever tournament, and it's the big one, the World Cup!

Portugal will play the exotic playoff.

Spain beat the US 2-0. Even with the bulk of their A team gone, it looks like they're still very strong.

The final standings to determine the two direct qualifiers and the one playoff team:

Switzerland 22 pts
Ireland 20 pts
Portugal 19 pts

https://www.uefa.com/womensworldcup/new ... play-offs/

Since wins in extra time still are counted as 3 pts, the rankings did not change from the group stage.

And even had only scores in normal time been counted, Switzerland would have 20 pts, and Portugal would have 17 pts, so we would still have Portugal going to the playoffs. But it would have been a problem if Ireland won in extra time and Portugal won in normal time. Hopefully next time they change the regulations such that scores in extra time are not counted.

Moreover, I understand UEFA would want to wrap up qualifying by October before the final draw, and the draw is held this time earlier than usually in December not to clash with the World Cup in Qatar. So UEFA are holding both rounds as single legs.

Hopefully the next time the playoffs will be over two legs, which would be much fairer. The first round can be held in October while the second round can be held in November.

Extra time scores have always been counted any time it's applicable. I've never seen that not happen in any competition.

Actually in the 2023 Euro U-21 regulations, only the normal time scores of the quarter-finals are counted if it is necessary to determine the best two losing quarter-finalists for a possible Olympic play-off:

https://documents.uefa.com/r/Regulation ... match-none

19.08
If the two best quarter-finalists are to be determined, the following criteria would apply, in the order given:

higher position in their group on completion of the final tournament group stage;
higher number of points in the final tournament group stage;
superior goal difference in the final tournament group stage;
higher number of goals scored in the final tournament group stage;
superior goal difference in the quarter-finals after normal time;
higher number of goals scored in the quarter-finals after normal time;

lower disciplinary points total based only on yellow and red cards received by players and team officials in the final tournament group stage and quarter-finals (red card = 3 points, yellow card = 1 point, expulsion for two yellow cards in one match = 3 points);
higher position in the UEFA Under-21 National team coefficient rankings used for the final draw (see Annex A.1.2.b).

Ireland are in trouble after singing pro-IRA stuff in the dressing room after their victory over a British team to qualify to the World Cup and putting it on social media. They put out the "sorry if you were offended" non-apology. Could be spicy if England draw them at the World Cup.
