True. So for Euro 28 qualifiers are like AFCON with 12 winners and 12 runners-up making a perfect 24 finalists.

I don’t think the hosts will play in the qualifiers, especially if the UK and Ireland bid win. Perhaps they can form their own group and call it the “British and Irish Championship”!

12 groups. Hosts guaranteed to be in 4 team groups.

2 teams qualify from each group: Winners and runners-up qualify to Euro in non-host groups, best non-host team in groups with host.

The Home International Championship was - if I'm not mistaken - the world's oldest international competition until it was discontinued in 1984.

Northern Ireland was the last champion, so they might at last face a challenge for their title after 40+ years!

Thought Modric had retired from NT? Is he having one last bash at winning WC after coming so close for the last 2 tournaments?

Why would you think that? He participated in both EURO qualifying games in March. The only chance of him retiring from international football before the EURO 2024 final tournament is if we win the Nations League. He might be tempted to do it holding a trophy in his hands. But if we don't win it, I'd be surprised if he doesn't decide to give it a one more go at trying to win the silverware in Germany next summer. That will be a home field tournament for Croatia.

Didn't see there 2 March games and was told he'd retired. Must have got wired crossed - he'll be 41 at next WC in 2026!

You mean players missing through injury? Memphis Depay, for one. There should be others, but I don't know.

Also, subject to the final approval of the UEFA administration, an injured or ill player may be replaced on the list of 23 players registered for participation before the team's first match at the finals. Goalkeepers may also be replaced before their next match during the finals.
