France (u17 champion), Netherlands (runner-up) and Serbia (semi-finalist) all failed.
Though you'd think their best time would be next year's tournament.

After a nightmare first half being down 5-0, we had a strong second one but it wasn't enough. Still promising fight back to lose 5-4 in the end.

I only watched the second half which Greece dominated; I could not believe the same team conceded 5 in a single half!

Poland had a player sent off in the first half, and I said to myself "this is the break Malta needed for a surprise point in front of their people!".

Well, not even with that.

We could have scored in the second minute, but then, after an unlucky second yellow card, had to defend deeply vs Malta :fingal: Things really weren't looking good. After all we appreciate the win, although a 3-0 result would be more comfortable before competing against Italy for qualifying from the group stage.

MATCHDAY 2
Thursday 6 July
Group A
Portugal 5-1 Italy (Centenary Stadium, Ta'Qali)
Malta 0-2 Poland (Centenary Stadium, Ta'Qali)

Portugal qualify for the semi-finals as group winners. Italy will qualify with a draw against Poland in the final match, while Poland need a win.

Friday 7July
Group B
Greece 0-5 Spain (Gozo Stadium, Xewkija)
Iceland 1-1 Norway (Tony Bezzina Stadium, Paola)

Spain qualify for the semi-finals, and only need a draw in the final match against Norway to win the group. Norway need a draw to ensure qualification to the semi-finals. If they lose and Iceland beat Greece, goal difference will decide the runners-up spot between Norway (currently GD +1, GF 6) and Iceland (currently GD -1, GF 2).

It would be better if Greece hadn't qualified.

10 goals conceded in 2 matches, this U19 team is worse than Malta's!
