Anyone interested in writing for Extra Football.com?

Post by badgerboy »

I posted something about this on Forum 1 a few weeks back.

But I thought it was worth putting a mention here too.

If there is anyone interested in writing - either regularly or possibly even just the occasional article - on any aspect of football then extra football would be very keen to hear from you.

This would be particularly true if your "specialist subject" was not one of the major leagues.

Anyone wanting more info. can PM me or simply contact Klemen Kos - via the website - direct.

No. Or at least - not yet.

To be honest I don't think it would be quite so "easy" to get them printing my articles if they were paid! It's strictly an "amateur" thing for now but obviously a chance for anyone to see what they can produce.

As regards future prospects of this changing - I think you really have to talk to the guys running the site for that.

I'm not familiar with this site so what kind of articles are they interested in? It would also be interesting to know how many people actually read those articles :P

For the first bit I would suggest that right now they aren't too fussy. As long as it's about football of course! I get the impression that the main idea is to get as many articles as possible on site in the hope that more and more people will find the site via internet search engines. These increased visitors will increase the appeal of the site to advertisers & hence eventually create a method of income.

The site is run by some people that already have a site in Slovenia called "Nogomania" and they want to expand into the English language. They seem to have many ideas - which you would really need to talk to them about (I don't want to be a spokesman and cause misunderstandings!) but the principle I like is that of a site which is a one-stop shop for articles and information on a lot of leagues that aren't covered by other sites.

As to the number of people that read the articles. Again you'd have to talk to one of the guys running the site. I did have a chat with Saso - one of the main techie guys - when I first contacted the site. I get the impression the numbers are small but growing steadily though the "income" this currently generates from advertising can be counted in cents per day rather than dollars at the moment. The site has been on line for about three months apparently and they have big ambitions to grow. Klemen Kos - whose contact details can be found on this page is definitely the guy to talk to though. Once you've made contact & maybe sent in an article he likes to have a chat via MSN messenger (or another similar service) anyway.

I was initially introduced to the site by a guy on the WS site that has his own excellent site on Argentinian football. He's starting out with serious ambitions of becoming a football journalist and seems to me to be a pretty good writer too so at that stage I thought that they might be a bit out of my league. It was only when a second guy - from India and a rank amateur like myself - got a few articles published that I rather nonchantly thought: "well if he can do it surely I can too".

What could you specifically write? A weekly round-up on the Romanian league for starters. Some articles on emerging Romanian players maybe. Updates on what's happening behind the scenes at the biggest clubs. some historical stuff? These are just my ideas of course and you might have different - and better - ones. I think anything you are interested in is possible.
