I don't think I've ever seen that happen, England beat a team in a tournament that goes on to win it.

11 June 2023
Play-off for third place
ISRAEL 3-1 KOREA REPUBLIC

Final
URUGUAY 1-0 ITALY

The top three teams all achieve their best ever result in the tournament.

Uruguay win their first title, after being runners-up in 1997 and 2013.

Italy reach their first final, after two consecutive semi-final losses, finishing third in 2017 and fourth in 2019.

Israel finish third in their debut appearance, and only other participation in a FIFA tournament other than the 1970 World Cup.

Uruguay are the third South American country to win the title, joining Argentina with 6 and Brazil with 5.

The only European countries to have won multiple titles are Portugal and Yugoslavia/Serbia, both with 2. England, France, (West) Germany, Spain, Ukraine, and USSR each have won 1 title.

The only African team to have won is Ghana.

Uruguay's win also means that the reigning champions of all four FIFA men's national team football tournaments are CONMEBOL nations (the last U17 World Cup was played in 2019 before the 2021 tournament was cancelled).

Vigente campeón mundial #Sub20: @Uruguay 🇺🇾

Also Uruguay's U20 coach, Marcelo Broli, won his second youth title in two years, after winning the U20 Copa Libertadores with Penarol in 2022. He was also caretaker coach of the senior national team for two matches in March.

After MD2, with points per game:

CONMEBOL - W7, L3, 2.10
CAF - W5, D1, L2, 2.00
UEFA - W4, D1, L5, 1.30
AFC - W2, D2, L4, 1.00
OFC - W1, D1, L2, 1.00
CONCACAF - W2, D1, L5, 0.86

UEFA now has a losing record. England propping up UEFA with two wins, the only UEFA team to win this round and the only team to stop a CONMEBOL team this round.

CAF surge into 2nd, becoming clear front runners alongside CONMEBOL with a powerful round with 3 wins and a draw.

AFC and OFC both failed to win while CONCACAF is still being carried by the US, but at least Honduras got a draw.
Teams still alive added at the end.

CONMEBOL - W11, D1, L3, 2.27, 5/5
UEFA - W7, D2, L6, 1.53, 4/5
CAF - W5, D3, L4, 1.50, 3/4
AFC - W3, D4, L5, 1.08, 2/4
CONCACAF - W3, D1, L8, 0.83, 1/4
OFC - W1, D1, L4, 0.67, 1/2

CONMEBOL are very strong, adding 4 more wins and a draw. England only got a draw this time, but 3 wins and a loss from the rest of UEFA brings an overall strong round as UEFA come roaring back into a winning record and into 2nd as CAF could only get two draws and are just behind UEFA now. Asia did okay, a win and two draws. It's all about the US for CONCACAF, 3 wins, the rest got a single draw from 9 games.
The all UEFA match is not included as this is about competition between confederations.

CONMEBOL - W14, D1, L5, 2.15, 3/5
UEFA - W8, D2, L7, 1.53, 2/5
CAF - W6, D3, L6, 1.40, 1/4
AFC - W4, D4, L6, 1.14, 1/4
CONCACAF - W4, D1, L8, 1.00, 1/4
OFC - W1, D1, L5, 0.57, 0/2
Alright, let's finish this with the remaining 8 matches:

CONMEBOL - W17, D1, L7, 2.07
UEFA - W12, D2, L9, 1.65
CAF - W6, D3, L7, 1.31
AFC - W5, D4, L8, 1.12
CONCACAF - W4, D1, L9, 0.93
OFC - W1, D1, L5, 0.57

I didn't like Uruguay's play... Defending with most players, and going for fast counter attacks.
The best team in the world will struggle against that kind of play, but it's not something that I like to see.
