Another draw for Fenerbahçe. Title fight is over but 2nd place is tight.
Yeah, another chance missed by Fenerbahçe. Bad timing to lose crucial points...
Is the title race over? Not yet.
Galatasaray host Istanbul Basaksehir tomorrow. If they win, then yes, the title fight is probably over.
One month ago Basaksehir won 2-3 away and eliminated Galatasaray from the domestic cup. Both teams played full strenght.
If they can get another win, title fight would be truly interesting with 3 teams within two points.
1. Galatasaray 76 pts (32)
2. Fenerbahçe 74 pts (33)
3. Besiktas 71 pts (33)
------
4. Adana Demirspor 60 pts (31)
5. Istanbul Basaksehir 54 pts (32)
Here is the standing including wins by forfeit against Hatayspor / Gaziantepspor.
Besiktas and Fener have 3 matches left, Galatasaray 4 and Adana Demirspor 5.
- Galatasaray have one hand on the trophy. Unless a miracle happens, they will win the title.
- Fenerbahçe must hope Galatasaray to lose or at least draw one game before their final matchday.
- Besiktas can realistically fight for 2nd place (although that's worthless as both 2nd place and 3rd place will start in the same Conference League round)
- Adana Demirspor must defeat Besiktas and probably win all their remaining games + expect Besiktas to not win both their final matches in order to grab 3rd place.
- Basaksehir can still pass Adana (they will play each other too)
4th place is only important if Fenerbahçe wins the domestic cup as that might the final ticket for Europe.
Remaining games
Galatasaray :
Istanbulspor (away)
Sivasspor (home)
Ankaragücü (away)
Fenerbahçe (home)
Fenerbahçe :
Trabzonspor (home)
Antalyaspor (home)
Galatasaray (away)
Besiktas :
Adana Demirspor (away)
Kasimpasa (away)
Konyaspor (home)
1. Galatasaray 79 pts (33)
2. Fenerbahçe 77 pts (34)
3. Besiktas 71 pts (33)
------
4. Adana Demirspor 63 pts (32)
No surprise this week as all top 4 teams won.
Fenerbahçe will hope that Galatasaray drop points against either Sivasspor or Ankaragücü
If Galatasaray win their next 2 matches, they will be champions.
This weekend : Adana Demirspor v Besiktas - Adana must win in order to have a chance to get 3rd place.
If they don't, Besiktas will most likely secure 3rd place.
Remaining games
Galatasaray :
Sivasspor (home)
Ankaragücü (away)
Fenerbahçe (home)
Fenerbahçe :
Antalyaspor (home)
Galatasaray (away)
Besiktas :
Adana Demirspor (away)
Kasimpasa (away)
Konyaspor (home)
With this result, Besiktas secured at least 3rd place and is qualified for Europa Conference League next season.
The league will likely be 'over' next week. If Galatasaray defeat Ankaragücü (away), they will be champions.
The last ticket for Europe will be for one of Sivasspor, Başakşehir or Adana Demirspor (if Fenerbahçe wins the cup)
Ankaragücü, the remaining team in the compétition, didn't get a licence.
Not too long ago there was a time when both Galatasaray and Fenerbahce had 19 titles and 3 stars each. There was a question of who will get the 4th star first and hence the bragging rights to be called the best club in Turkey (at that time it was still known as Turkey not Turkiye). Galatasaray got there first and have since added 3 more titles. Now a 5th star seems closer for Galatasaray than a 4th star for Fenerbahce. Even Besiktas might think they can get their own 4th star before Fenerbahce.

That's probably the reason why Fenerbahçe are trying to use a "cheat code" here as they want Turkish Football Federation to count the titles before 1959.
If that happens, Fenerbahçe will have 28 titles & Galatasaray 24 titles (including the recent one)

What's the stars for?
1 star over your logo = 5 league titles in Turkey.
It's quite common in some leagues (in Italy, it's 1 star every 10 league titles, that's why Juventus have 3 stars for instance. Or in the World Cup - 1 cup = one star for countries)

I ve heard of 1 star for each 10 national titles or 1 for each european champions cup/cl but I wasn't figuring out how Gala was close to 5th.
Now you ve explained, the 5 years/star
Fenerbahçe will finish 2nd if they don't lose to Gala tomorrow, or if Besiktas don't defeat Konyaspor next matchday (on Wednesday)
The last relegated team will be one of Istanbulspor and Giresunspor. Big advantage for the Istanbul team since a win will be enough for them.
Giresunspor v Antalyaspor
Istanbulspor v Umraniyespor
And finally, the Cup Final next Sunday between Fenerbahçe and Istanbul Basaksehir will decide which club will go to ECL Q2 between Istanbul Basaksehir or Adana Demirspor.
Fenerbahçe lost heaviliy at Galatasaray (0-3), like the first leg.
For a team like Fenerbahçe, losing twice 0-3 against their biggest rival is a huge disappointment.
On top of that, they lost second place to Besiktas. Unless Besiktas do not defeat Konyaspor at home, they will finish 3rd in a league where their ultimate objective of the season was to win it.
Worth to mention that they also spent more than 40m€ on transfers.
Despite good results in Europe, the season turned into a fiasco and it's almost 100% sure that they won't continue with Jorge Jesus as their coach.
