https://www.oceaniafootball.com/teams-d ... opponents/

The draw for the OFC U-17 Championship 2023 took place at Te Kahu o Kiwa, OFC’s Home of Football in Auckland.

The 10 nations who will compete to be crowned Oceania’s best U-17 team have learned their group stage opponents following today’s draw for the OFC U-17 Championship 2023.

The latest edition of the tournament will be hosted in Fiji from January 11-28, 2023.

Not only will teams be hunting for regional glory but also global recognition with the two finalists qualifying for the FIFA U-17 World Cup™ in Peru next year.

It is the first time the tournament is being played since 2018 due to the COVID-19 pandemic with fixtures taking place at the Ba Academy in Ba and Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium.

Four teams will contest Group A, host nation Fiji, Samoa, Papua New Guinea and Tonga.

Group B consists of reigning champions New Zealand, New Caledonia, and American Samoa.

In Group C, Tahiti, Vanuatu, and the Cook Islands will battle for a place in the quarter-finals.

Each team will play each other once in their respective groups. The winners, runners-up and the two highest-ranked 3rd placed teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals on January 21 and 22.

The semi-finals will take place on January 25 with the tournament final set for HFC Bank Stadium on January 28.

The opening game of the OFC U-17 Championship 2023 will be New Zealand v New Caledonia on January 11 from the Ba Academy, Ba with a full match schedule available soon on the OFC website.

In case you are wondering why there are only ten OFC teams competing, the Solomon Islands are banned from entering due to fielding at least one ineligible player in the 2018 OFC U-16 Championship.

Concacaf’s U-17 Men’s World Cup qualifying tournament is scheduled for February 2023 in Guatemala

Semifinalists to represent the region in the FIFA U-17 World Cup Peru 2023

Miami, FL – Concacaf has conducted the official draw for the 2023 Concacaf U-17 Men’s Championship (CU17C). The World Cup qualifying competition will take place February 11 - 26, 2023, in Guatemala, and will include the participation of 20 Concacaf Member Associations.

During Thursday’s draw, hosted at the Confederations Headquarters, in Miami, FL, the 16 nations participating in the 2023 CU17C group stage (all ranked 16 or better in the Concacaf Men’s U-17 Ranking) were divided into four groups of four teams each.

The groups are as follows:

Group E: Mexico, Panama, Guatemala, Curacao
Group F: USA, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados
Group G: Costa Rica, Jamaica, Cuba, Guadeloupe
Group H: Honduras, Haiti, El Salvador, Suriname

After group stage play, the top three nations in each group will advance to the knockout stage, joining the four 2022 Concacaf U-17 Men’s Qualifiers (CU17Q) group winners; Bermuda, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Puerto Rico.

The four-round knockout stage (round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and final) will be played in a single match elimination format and the four semifinalists will qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Peru 2023.

Matches will be divided across two venues, the Estadio Nacional Doroteo Guamuch Flores in Guatemala City and the Estadio Pensativo in Antigua.

The competition’s match schedule will be announced at a later date.

In the previous edition of the Concacaf U-17 Championship, played in Bradenton, FL, in 2019, Mexico won its eighth title at this age level, with a 2-1 extra time win over the United States in the final.

In the Concacaf U20 championship, the Dominican Republic started from qualifying (outside the top 16 in ranking) and reached the final, qualifying for the U20 World Cup and Olympics.

Can their U17 team repeat this feat? It would be more impressive because they have to play the Group F winners in the round of 16, which is most likely the United States.

Cameroon FA are performing MRI to all players before the 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations Central Zone qualification tournament, to check their real ages.
From the initial 30 players 21 were above the declared aged. From the 21 replacement players, 11 were found to be older then the age in their documentation.

The Fiji Times have reported that alongside the Solomon Islands being unavailable for this tournament, Papua New Guinea will miss the upcoming OFC U17 Championship. Apparently the reason for this is that PNG failed to submit their registration in time for the tournament

PNG is not included in the provisional squad list released by OFC. So looks like they will not be playing.

https://www.oceaniafootball.com/provisi ... ship-2023/

P.S. PNG has been removed from the schedule by the OFC, so it is official.

https://www.oceaniafootball.com/preview ... ship-2023/

So Group A is left with 3 teams, and overall only 9 teams will be playing. And 8 teams will advance to the knockout round, so only 1 team will be eliminated after the group stage (same situation as last year's OFC Women's Nations Cup).

So only three teams remained in the Central Zone qualification tournament: Cameroon, Central African Republic and Congo (Brazzaville). The top two will qualify for the final tournament.
