Barca needs to make up 6 points. So a win, advance to 1/4 final plus one win in the 1/4 will do it.
That's five points (for UEFA each win is worth 2 points and qualification 1 point) so they need to qualify at least for the semifinals and may still need some results there.

1 spot to qualify from ranking if Monterrey win 2024 title. Mexican teams are not eligible.

The maximum a team can still win in the rest of tournament is 27 points (18 match points + 9 bonus points).

Note: Round 1 results are not counted for match points (since not all teams play in this round), but a team which win a round 1 tie is given 3 bonus points for reaching round of 16 (as are teams given a bye to round of 16).

Here are the 15 teams (not counting Monterrey) still competing in 2024, and they are the only teams that can still qualify.

Philadelphia Union (USA) - 41
----
Columbus Crew (USA) - 19 (must win title to qualify, since they have to play Monterrey in the semi-finals)
New England Revolution - 15
Alajuelense (CRC) - 12 (must win title to qualify)
Orlando City (USA) - 9 (must win title to qualify)
Herediano (CRC) - 6 (must win title to qualify)
Inter Miami (USA) - 4 (must win title to qualify)
Nashville (USA) - 4 (must win title to qualify)
Cincinnati (USA) - 3 (must win title to qualify)
Houston Dynamo (USA) - 3 (must win title to qualify)
Robinhood (SUR) - 3 (must win title to qualify)
America (MEX) - (must win title to qualify)
Chivas Guadalajara (MEX) - (must win title to qualify)
Pachuca (MEX) - (must win title to qualify)
Tigres UANL (MEX) - (must win title to qualify)
Actually, New England Revolution also need to win to qualify as they can't take Philadelphia Union unless they win the Champions Cup.

Atletico Madrid or Juventus will book Mundial de Clubes FIFA place

https://www.fifa.com/fifaplus/en/tourna ... fying-race

Either Juventus or Atletico Madrid will join the 20 clubs already qualified

Jeonbuk Motors FC and FC Salzburg could also qualify

Inaugural global tournament to take place in the USA in June and July 2025

Three more clubs could claim their places this week in the inaugural edition of FIFA’s new prime club competition, Mundial de Clubes FIFA™, joining the 20 sides who have already qualified for the 32-team tournament in the USA next year. One of Juventus (ITA) and Atletico Madrid (ESP) will qualify, while Jeonbuk Motors (KOR) and RB Salzburg (AUT) could also book their spots.

The UEFA Champions League (UCL) round of 16 second leg on 12 March between Barcelona (ESP) and Napoli (ITA), which is level at 1-1 after the first leg in Italy on 21 February is a key fixture, both for the two participants and two other European giants.

A win for five-time European champions Barcelona will not only keep alive their hopes of qualifying, either as 2023/24 UCL champions or via the ranking pathway, but it will also guarantee Juventus, the most successful club in Italian domestic football, a place via the rankings and eliminate Napoli. On the other hand, a win for Napoli would keep the Partenopei in the hunt and ensure that Atletico Madrid qualify via the rankings, while eliminating Barcelona.

RB Salzburg will be assured of a place at the Mundial de Clubes FIFA via the ranking pathway if both Porto (POR) eliminate Arsenal (ENG) on 12 March and Borussia Dortmund (GER) overcome PSV Eindhoven (NED) the following evening. Arsenal and PSV can only qualify as winners of this season’s competition.

Twice European champions Porto, already qualified via the ranking pathway, have a 1-0 lead from the first leg in Portugal while Dortmund, who qualified via Europe’s ranking pathway last week, held PSV 1-1 in the Netherlands. Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid host Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan (ITA) – already qualified through the rankings – in the week’s other tie on 13 March.

There are no other clubs still in contention for the 12 European slots. Manchester City (ENG), Real Madrid (ESP) and Chelsea (ENG) have already qualified as continental champions and Bayern Munich (GER), Paris Saint-Germain (FRA), Inter Milan, Porto, Benfica (POR) and Borussia Dortmund have earned their places via the ranking pathway.

This week could also prove decisive in Asia where twice AFC Champions League (ACL) and nine-times K-League winners Jeonbuk Motors have a chance to clinch their place via the ranking pathway. Jeonbuk travel to Ulsan HD FC in the second leg of their ACL quarter-final on 12 March and will secure qualification if they win the tie, which is level at 1-1 after the first leg. Ulsan can also still qualify via rankings, but a victory over Jeonbuk would improve their prospects.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr (KSA), Al Ain (UAE), Al Ittihad (KSA), Shandong Taishan (CHN) and Yokohama F. Marinos (JPN) will aim to keep alive their hopes of qualifying in the other quarter-final ties this week.

The winners of the AFC Champions League over the past two seasons – Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia and Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds – have already secured their places.

On the other side of the world, the race to claim the fourth and final Concacaf place as winners of this season’s Concacaf Champions Cup continues with the Round of 16 second leg ties on 12-14 March. Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami (USA) are among the contenders and the Argentina captain was on target last week, along with Uruguay’s Luis Suarez, as they fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 away to Nashville (USA).

Monterrey (MEX), Seattle Sounders (USA) and Club Leon (MEX) have already qualified after winning the Concacaf Champions Cup in 2021, 2022 and 2023 respectively.

This week will also see the conclusion of the qualifying stage of the 2024 CONMEBOL Libertadores in South America, where three of the six places are still up for grabs – one for this year’s winners and two via the ranking pathway. However, there is still a long way to go in South America with the final scheduled for Buenos Aires on 30 November.

Palmeiras (BRA) (2021), Flamengo (BRA) (2022) and Fluminense (BRA) (2023) are the trio of elite Brazilian clubs that have already secured their spots having won the past three editions of the CONMEBOL Libertadores.

Congratulations to @juventusfc on qualifying for FIFA Club World Cup 2025!

As a result of @sscnapoli's elimination from the @ChampionsLeague, Juventus are now assured of a spot via Europe's ranking pathway and become the 10th team from Europe to qualify for the tournament.

How Libertadores draw shapes race for Mundial de Clubes FIFA 25™

https://www.fifa.com/fifaplus/en/tourna ... -de-clubes

Three of the six spots for South American clubs still available

29 of 32 teams in group stage can qualify as champions

21 clubs still in hunt via ranking pathway

South American teams with ambitions of claiming one of the three remaining spots at the inaugural Mundial de Clubes FIFA 25™ now know their first steps to the tournament after the group stage draw for the 2024 CONMEBOL Libertadores was made in Asuncion, Paraguay.

The group stage kicks off on 2 April with 32 clubs. The final will be played in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 30 November.

Will the champions qualify for Mundial de Clubes FIFA 25?

Yes. The team that lifts the trophy in the Argentinian capital will become the fourth South American champion to join the 32-team party set for the USA next year, leaving two slots still open.

However, that will only happen if the champions are NOT one of the Brazilian trio of Palmeiras, Flamengo, and Fluminense, who have claimed South American club football’s biggest prize in each of the last three years respectively.

What happens if Palmeiras, Flamengo, or Fluminense win again?

Three places will be available to the 21 clubs still in the running to qualify for the tournament via the ranking pathway.

The CONMEBOL qualifying race at a glance

CONMEBOL: Six places at Mundial de Clubes FIFA 25™

Already qualified: Palmeiras (BRA), Flamengo (BRA), Fluminense (BRA) (all as continental champions).

Can still qualify as 2024 champions: 29 clubs: Atletico Mineiro (BRA), River Plate (ARG), Club Nacional de Football (URU), CSD Independiente del Valle (ECU), Barcelona SC (ECU), Club Cerro Porteno (PAR), Estudiantes (ARG), Club Libertad (PAR), Club The Strongest (BOL), Sao Paulo (BRA), Club Bolivar (BOL), CA Talleres (ARG), Deportivo Tachira FC (VEN), CSD Colo-Colo (CHI), Club Alianza Lima (PER), LDU Quito (ECU), CA Penarol (URU), Junior (COL), Caracas FC (VEN), Liverpool FC Montevideo (URU), Club Universitario de Deportes (PER), Gremio FBPA (BRA), San Lorenzo de Almagro (ARG), Club Atletico Rosario Central (ARG), Millonarios FC (COL), Huachipato FC (CHI), CD Cobresal (PAR), Club Deportivo Palestino (CHI), Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas (BRA).

Can still qualify via Ranking: Two spots*: 21 clubs: Boca Juniors (ARG), River Plate (ARG), Olimpia (PAR), Club Nacional de Football (URU), CSD Independiente del Valle (ECU), Barcelona SC (ECU), Club Cerro Porteno (PAR), Estudiantes (ARG), Club Libertad (PAR), The Strongest (BOL), Club Bolivar (BOL), Talleres (ARG), Deportivo Tachira FC (VEN), Colo-Colo (CHI), Club Alianza Lima (PER), LDU Quito (ECU), CA Penarol (URU), Junior (COL), Caracas FC (VEN), Liverpool FC Montevideo (URU), Club Universitario de Deportes (PER).

* Three spots will be available via the ranking pathway if Palmeiras, Flamengo, or Fluminense win the 2024 Libertadores.

Currently in position to qualify via rankings: Boca Juniors (71 pts), River Plate (67), Olimpia (57)

Breakdown of how teams can qualify via ranking

No Brazilian team can qualify via the ranking pathway as a maximum of two clubs per country is allowed unless there are multiple continental champions from the same country. Another Brazilian team would qualify if they end the 2024 competition as champions.

Maximum of 49 points available (after the three points awarded for reaching the group stage), including 21 group stage Ranking points = 18 points from group stage games (3 points x 6 wins) + another three for reaching the Round of 16

Teams with 8 points or more: can qualify via Ranking IF Palmeiras, Flamengo or Fluminense win the 2024 Libertadores. This would open up three qualifying spots via ranking, and they would be able to overtake Olimpia.

Teams with 18 points or more: can overtake River Plate, who are active in this year’s competition, for the guaranteed second qualifying spot.

Teams with 22 points or more: can also overtake Boca Juniors, who are not playing in the 2024 Libertadores.

A total of 19 group stage teams can qualify via Ranking: River Plate (67 pts), Nacional (43), Independiente del Valle (41), Barcelona (40), Cerro Porteno (40), Estudiantes (30), Libertad (30), The Strongest (30), Bolivar (27), Talleres (27), Deportivo Tachira (25), Colo-Colo (22), Alianza Lima (14), LDU Quito (14), Penarol (13), Junior (13), Caracas (12), Liverpool (10), Universitario (10).

Make-or-break for Barcelona in the race to qualify for the Mundial de Clubes FIFA 25™

https://inside.fifa.com/about-fifa/orga ... -de-clubes

Mamelodi Sundowns, Salzburg, Atlético Madrid and Ulsan on the brink of qualifying

Two other clubs, ES Tunis and Jeonbuk Motors, could also clinch their spots in April

Barcelona face make-or-break tie against Paris Saint-Germain

Four more clubs – Ulsan HD FC (KOR), Mamelodi Sundowns FC (RSA), FC Salzburg (AUT) and Club Atlético de Madrid (ESP) – are poised to claim their places at the inaugural 32-team Mundial de Clubes FIFA™ (FIFA Club World Cup 2025™) over the course of the next three weeks, while FC Barcelona (ESP) face another make-or-break tie in their bid to qualify.

The continental competitions resume from 29 March with quarter-finals in the CAF Champions League, Concacaf Champions Cup and UEFA Champions League, while the AFC Champions League is at the semi-final stage.

The first matches are in Africa where Al Ahly (EGY), CAF Champions League winners in 2020-2021 and 2022-2023, and Wydad Athletic Club (MAR), winners in 2021-2022, have already qualified as continental champions and will be joined by this year's winners and one team via the ranking pathway. The latter will be either Mamelodi Sundowns or Espérance Sportive de Tunis (TUN), although both clubs will qualify if one or the other go on to lift the trophy, or if Al Ahly win the title for a record 12th time.

Mamelodi Sundowns, the most successful club in the South African Premier Division with 13 titles, will book their place if Espérance lose their quarter-final. The Shoe Shine and Piano face Young Africans SC (TAN) (30 March and 5 April) while four-time champions Espérance play AS des Employés de Commerce Mimosas (CIV) (30 March and 6 April). Furthermore, if Mamelodi lose their quarter-final with either a draw and defeat or two defeats and Espérance go through to the semi-finals with two victories, the Tunisian club would overtake their South African rivals in the rankings and therefore be guaranteed qualification.

The third quarter-final features five-time champions Tout Puissant Mazembe (COD) against Atlético Petróleas Luanda (ANG), two sides who can only qualify by winning the competition (30 March and 6 April). Similarly, Simba Sports Club (TAZ), who face Al Ahly (29 March and 5 April), must win the competition to qualify.

The action resumes on 9 April in Europe where five-time European champions Barcelona must eliminate Paris Saint-Germain FC (FRA) in their quarter-final to keep alive their chances of qualifying, either via the rankings or as this season's Champions League winners.

If Xavi's side lose the tie, then Atlético Madrid will guarantee their place via the ranking pathway regardless of how they fare against BV Borussia 09 Dortmund (GER). Similarly, FC Salzburg will book their place if Arsenal FC (ENG) – who can only qualify as champions – are knocked out by FC Bayern München (GER).

In Asia, one place is still open for the winners of the 2023-2024 AFC Champions League and one via the ranking pathway. Ulsan will be guaranteed a FIFA Club World Cup 2025 berth at the expense of their compatriots Jeonbuk Motors FC (KOR) should they secure one more win - or two draws - in this season’s competition, or progress to the final. The Tigers face Yokohama F. Marinos (JPN) on 17 and 24 April with Harry Kewell’s F. Marinos side knowing that they can only qualify for next year’s tournament in the United States by winning the AFC Champions League for the first time.

In the other semi-final (16 and 23 April), Al Ain FC (UAE) host four-time winners Al Hilal (KSA), who have already qualified as champions of the 2021 edition. Should the Saudi side win a fifth title, the two Korean clubs leading the rankings list, Ulsan and Jeonbuk, will join them in the United States. Additionally, if Al Hilal and Ulsan both advance to the final, Jeonbuk’s place at the global tournament will be secure.

Mexican and U.S. clubs are dominating the race to claim the fourth and final Concacaf place which will go to the winners of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup. This has reached the quarter-final stage with the first legs on 2-3 April and the returns on 9-10 April.

Lionel Messi’s Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami (USA) are among the contenders and face CF Monterrey (MEX), who are already qualified as 2021 champions. Should Rayados add to their five titles, they will open up a place for the top side in the rankings which would be either Philadelphia Union (USA) or Columbus Crew (USA), with the former holding a considerable advantage.

There are two more ties between Mexican and U.S. clubs – Club América (MEX) against New England Revolution (USA) and Tigres UANL (MEX) against Columbus Crew. Costa Rican side CS Herediano (CRC), the only club from outside the USA and Mexico still in the running, face CF Pachuca (MEX).

The group stage of the CONMEBOL Libertadores 2024 starts on 2 April, with three of the six places in South America still up for grabs – one for this year’s winners and two via the ranking pathway. The final is scheduled for Buenos Aires on 30 November.

Mexican clubs in driving seat for Mundial de Clubes FIFA 25™ place

https://www.fifa.com/fifaplus/en/tourna ... -world-cup

One Concacaf place still up for grabs at the inaugural tournament in the USA

Concacaf Champions Cup quarter-finals to be decided this week

UEFA Champions League last eight also gets under way

The race to claim the fourth and final Concacaf place at the inaugural 32-team Mundial de Clubes FIFA 25™ (FIFA Club World Cup 2025™) heats up this week as the Concacaf Champions Cup is whittled down to the final four, while the UEFA Champions League last eight also gets under way. In Africa, two places remain up for grabs after the completion of the quarter-final stage in the CAF Champions League.

Mexican clubs are dominating the race to win the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup and join Monterrey (MEX), Seattle Sounders (USA) and Club Leon (MEX), who qualified by winning the three previous editions.

Monterrey host Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami (USA) with a 2-1 lead from last week’s first leg while Pachuca (MEX) have 5-0 advantage over Herediano (CRC) as they entertain the Costa Rican side at the Estadio Hidalgo.

Club America (MEX) also enjoy a commanding lead against New England Revolution (USA) (4-0) following an away win last week and Tigres (MEX) have a slight edge over Columbus Crew (USA), having drawn 1-1 away in the first leg.

Should Monterrey win the title again, that would open up one place via the ranking pathway, which would be Philadelphia Union (USA).

In Europe, five-time European champions Barcelona (ESP) must eliminate Paris Saint-Germain (FRA) in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final to keep alive their chances of qualifying, either via the rankings or as winners of this season’s competition. If Xavi's side lose the tie, then Atletico Madrid (ESP) will be guaranteed a place via the ranking pathway regardless of how they fare against Borussia Dortmund (GER).

Similarly, FC Salzburg will book their place if Arsenal (ENG) – who can only qualify as champions – are knocked out by Bayern Munich (GER). The first legs will be played on 9 and 10 April with the returns one week later. There are no other teams in contention for the two remaining UEFA places.

Two places are also still open in Africa where Al Ahly (EGY), CAF Champions League winners in 2020/21 and 2022/23, and Wydad (MAR), winners in 2021/22, have already qualified as continental champions. One will go to the winners of this year’s CAF Champions League and the other via the ranking pathway, which will be either Mamelodi Sundowns (RSA) or ES Tunis (TUN).

Both of those teams won their quarter-finals on penalties after 0-0 aggregate draws against Young Africans (TAN) and ASEC Mimosas (CIV) respectively and face each other in the semi-final on 19 and 26 April. Both will qualify if Al Ahly, who meet Tout Puissant Mazembe (COD) in the other tie on 20 and 26 April, win a record 12th title.

In Asia, one place is still open for the winners of the 2023/24 AFC Champions League and one via the ranking pathway. Ulsan HD (KOR) will be guaranteed a berth at the expense of their compatriots Jeonbuk Motors (KOR) should they secure one more win - or two draws - in this season’s competition, or progress to the final. Ulsan face Yokohama F Marinos (JPN) on 17 and 24 April with Harry Kewell’s Marinos knowing that they can only qualify by winning the AFC Champions League for the first time.

In the other semi-final (16 and 23 April), Al Ain (UAE) host four-time winners Al Hilal (KSA), who have already qualified as champions of the 2021 edition. Should the Saudi side win a fifth title, the two Korean clubs leading the rankings list, Ulsan and Jeonbuk, will join them in the USA. Additionally, if Al Hilal and Ulsan both advance to the final, Jeonbuk’s place at the global tournament will be secure.

The group stage of the CONMEBOL Libertadores 2024 started on 2 April with three of the six places in South America still up for grabs – one for this year’s winners and two via the ranking pathway. The final is scheduled for Buenos Aires on 30 November.
