The two PK retakes for Mex were correct “by the book”, but I hate the application f the rule when the kick takes such an obvious stutter step. The sole purpose of the stutter step is to get the GK to move, you already have a 3:1 advantage. In my view, by taking a stutter step, you not only gave the GK permission to move, you actually “asked” him to move. The GK should not be punished for a slight movement (let’s say 30cm) off the line, if it was taken AFTER the stutter step. Old days this might be impossible to determine, but with VAR being used to determine off/on the line, checking at the time of the stutter step instead of when the ball is kicked will not add more time.

Without a doubt, both CONCACAF and the Copa America organizers pooped champagne after the last PK.

So it’s clear, while MEX did get some breaks, I don’t think that the result was due to any conspiracy or corruption.

I could see a small home defeat for Nicaragua, with the duties done, Dom Rep should've wanted the win more to avenge the reverse fixture.

What I couldn't see was the dull 0-0 it ended up being, between two sides that had nothing to lose. Anyway, on to League A undefeated. Hope our stay there isn't too rough, because I'm assuming it will be short.

There was a storm in the Dominican Republic a few days ago which killed dozens of people. So likely football is not the most important thing on their players' mind, especially for a dead rubber.

The storm also caused the postponement of the match between Bahamas and Guyana, which was supposed to be played on Saturday in the Dominican Republic. No make up date has been announced yet.

AT&T Stadium will host the Semifinals and Third Place Match/Final on March 21 and 24 respectively.

CNL Play-In matches on March 23 at Toyota Stadium will feature Canada vs Trinidad and Tobago and Costa Rica vs Honduras for the two remaining Concacaf spots in 2024 Copa America.

Tickets to the CNLF doubleheaders are available to the public via Concacaf.com/nationsleaguefinals.

Miami, FL – Following the conclusion of the 2023/24 Concacaf Nations League (CNL) Quarterfinals, Concacaf has confirmed the pairings for the Concacaf Nations League Finals presented by Qatar Airways (CNLF) Semifinals and the CNL Play-In. These decisive and exciting matches, featuring the region's eight best men’s national teams, will take place in the Dallas Metropolitan Area during the FIFA Match Window of March 2024 (March 21-24, 2024).

The CNLF third edition will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, amongst the four CNL Quarterfinal winners. The tournament's Semifinals, scheduled for Thursday, March 21, will see Panama (1) vs Mexico (4) and United States (2) vs Jamaica (3). The Third-Place match and Final will follow the Semifinals on Sunday, March 24.

The CNL Play-In matches between the four CNL Quarterfinal losers will take place on Saturday, March 23, at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, TX. The direct elimination matches, Canada (1) vs Trinidad and Tobago (4) and Costa Rica (2) vs Honduras (3), will determine the last two Concacaf guest national teams qualifying for the CONMEBOL Copa America 2024.

To determine the CNLF Semifinal pairings, Concacaf has ranked the four participating national teams 1-4 based on the CNL Quarterfinal results, with the national team that accumulated the most points facing the national team that accumulated the least points (1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3). The CNLF Semifinals standings and pairings are as follows:

The Semifinal winners will advance to the CNLF Final, where the tournament's third champion will be crowned after the United States won the first two editions (2021 in Denver, CO, and 2023 in Las Vegas, NV). The Semifinal losers will dispute the Third Place Match.

Tickets to the CNLF Semifinals, Third Place Match, and Final at AT&T Stadium are available to the public at Concacaf.com/nationsleaguefinals or SeatGeek.com.

The CNL Play-In pairings have been determined based on the Concacaf Men's Rankings published after November's FIFA Match Window, with the highest-ranked team facing the lowest-ranked team (1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3).

That was done to ensure that USA and Mexico can’t be paired with each other if they both end up in the Playin. The NL uses the results of the “qualifiers” to determine the seeding.

I can see that on Dom Rep's part, but my focus was on Nicaragua. There's a problem of complacency unbefitting of a country of our caliber (it looks bad when powerhouses display it as well). They should've gone all out to show off before the crowd which was not only celebrating the team's promotion, but also Miss Universe going to Nicaragua (small countries have few things to celebrate, sorry not sorry  ).

Remember the crazy qualification format for the first CONCACAF Nations League, where you had to try and put as many goals as possible past your weakest opponents because goal difference was the tiebreaker among 30+ teams in just 4 matchdays? Well, Nicaragua was beating at home their lowest ranked opponent, Anguilla, 6-0 at HT, and the score frustratingly didn't move. Had they scored another 6 or 7 in the 2nd half, they could've gone directly to League A instead of waiting for 3 full seasons. The coach expressed frustration after the match, I remember. They recalled the other home fixture against Anguilla that ended 5-0, and apparently were content with just marginally improving that. Unacceptable.
