Nothing wrong with VAR in that situation. Sabitzer amateurishly just went ahead by himself without waiting for the referee to give the signal to kick the penalty.

Watching Leverkusen shedding their given name Neverkusen, 2:0 after an hour of play against Werder Bremen. Magic atmosphere!

It's almost a miracle to see a maiden champion in a big league in the current atmosphere. Though it happened 8 years ago with Leicester, plus the fact that Leverkusen at some point felt like part of the "elite" during their good years at the turn of the millennium, what with that G-14 stuff.

While not “maiden champions”, the following are likely to make maiden UCL appearance in 2024-25 season:
Aston Villa* (EPL)
Girona (La Liga)
Bologna (Serie A)
Brest (Ligue 1j
Long shot:
Nice (Ligue 1)

* did participate in the European Cup (1981-82 and 1982-83 seasons)

Yes, broadening the standard, more teams in big leagues have a chance. Though "Aston Villa debuts in the CL" rings a little hollow when they're a former champion of the competition's prior incarnation.

Scarcely has a league title been more richly deserved. :applause:

Now go and party like maniacs and make yourselves thoroughly unfit for the West Ham game!

Scenes of unbridled joy in the stadium. When 30+ thousand fans sing "Viva Espana" for your honor Xabi Alonso you've my deepest respect! Congratulations Leverkusen!

Fair comment. I’ll add an * next to their name.

In my view, the UCL is a replacement of the old European Cup. While it was a continuation from 1993 to 1997 starting with the 1987-98 season and giving access to non-champions it’s a different competition.

Today Leverkusen won league for 1st time but they also completed 43 matches in row unbeaten. This is the best unbeaten run of a club from a top5 league. Juventus of 2011-12 has also same unbeaten run but they weren't taking part at UEFA competitions that season. If they don't loose at EL's QF they will have the record alone.

Actually it should be considered the other way. Back in the days when football was better, you couldn‘t sneak into the Champions Cup via the backstage entrance. You needed to win your league title in year one and then eliminate your peers in year two. Nowadays some runner-up from Italy may beat some third ranked from England in the final and call themselves Champion of the Champions (Lesgue). And it‘ll even get worse. Being City, Real or Bayern, fielding just some benchwarmers in that newly designed rubbish of a group stage, losing like three or four or even five games in the rubbish first stage, who cares, you just have to beat the shit out of some mediocre team in the extra-round and you‘re back in the saddle for the trophy.
