Round 5
August 19: Slovácko - Mladá Boleslav 2:2 (Att: 3 992)
August 19: Liberec - Pardubice 1:0 (Att: 1 858)
August 19: Karviná - Jablonec 1:1 (Att: 2 340)
August 19: Teplice - Sparta Praha 1:1 (Att: 15 841)
August 20: České Budějovice - Bohemians 3:0 (Att: 3 756)
August 20: Plzeň - Olomouc 2:1 (Att: 9 114)
August 20: Hradec Králové - Zlín 2:0 (Att: 8 567)
August 20: Slavia Praha - Ostrava 1:0 (Att: 19 164)

Highlights of this round:
- Slavia keeps winning league matches, this time it was a narrow win over Ostrava, the only goal scored by ex-Ostrava's Muhamed Tijani early in the second half. Quite dubious VAR decision as it looks like a foul preceded the goal. Ostrava created nothing the whole match.
- Sparta dropped two points in Teplice. It looked all good as Kuchta scored in the first half, but towards the end of the first half Krejčí was sent off for a tackle as a last defender. Teplice with one man advantage were better in the second half and scored five minutes before the end from a corner kick.
- Plzeň turned the match against Olomouc around in the added time of the first half. They conceded after half an hour of play but then scored in 45+1' and 45+3', which was enough to secure a win and move up to N3. Therefore, the table looks as pundits expected before the season, Slavia and Sparta on top and Plzeň the best from the rest.
- Slovácko lead against Mladá Boleslav 1-0 when one of the away team players was sent off. Despite being one man down, Boleslav scored twice and Slovácko equalized in the added time with a clever goal by Kalabiška, who hid behind a goalkeeper while he restarted the play and once he put the ball on the ground, Kalabiška stole it and scored into the empty net.
- České Budějovice got their first points and moved up from the last spot, Zlín fell to the bottom.

Round 6
August 26: Zlín - Teplice 2:1 (Att: 2 521)
August 26: Pardubice - Slovácko 0:1 (Att: 3 014)
August 26: Ostrava - České Budějovice 2:0 (Att: 6 458)

August 27: Sparta Praha - Karviná 3:1 (Att: 16 256)
postponed: Mladá Boleslav - Plzeň

Highlights of this round:
- Another week, another change at the top. Slavia only drew in Jablonec and therefore fell to N2. It was an ugly match with plenty of fouls, the time of play was very low. Still, Slavia could have won but Jurečka wasted a penalty.
- Sparta won easily against Karviná at home, the visitors didn't even try very much and conceded twice early. In the second half, Sparta's Karabec was sent off and Karviná made it 2-1 but Sparta added a third goal and the match was over. With a better goal difference than Slavia, Sparta moves to N1.
- Plzeň postponed their match in Mladá Boleslav due to long travel to and from Kazakhstan. From this season on, clubs starting in playoff of european cups have a possibility to postpone their league matches between both legs, Plzeň was the only one to actually do it.
- Olomouc and Slovácko continue their strong starts, Bohemians also won their home match and moved up in the standings
- Ostrava's Tanko scored a brace to the club a bit away from the relegation fight.

September 3: Hradec Králové - Olomouc 1:3 (Att: 9 150)

Highlights of this round:
- All favourites won this time. Sparta was not very good for 60 minutes in Liberec but then Haraslín came from the bench and suddenly Sparta was all over Liberec. Haraslín scored both goals and Sparta stays at the top.
- Slavia was 0-1 down early at home against Karviná, but soon after that ex-Sparta goalkeeper Holec blundered and Tijani equalized. Then it was just a question of how many goals Slavia will score. The answer was five. Conrad Wallem recorded a panenka penalty and an assist.
- Plzeň won easily 2-0 at home, Bohemians conceded early and never looked like being able to cause problems to Plzeň
- Baník Ostrava won a home match for the third time in a row and slowly climbs up the standings.
- Pardubice won away at Teplice with an offside goal which was somehow accepted by VAR as the situation was deemed inconclusive.
- Olomouc stays at N3 and Slovácko at N4 with another wins and look strong early in the season.

Round 8
September 16: Mladá Boleslav - Hradec Králové 5:1 (Att: 3 011)
September 16: Olomouc - České Budějovice 2:1 (Att: 3 432)
September 16: Bohemians - Ostrava 1:1 (Att: 6 079)
September 16: Karviná - Teplice 0:1 (Att: 2 268)
September 16: Pardubice - Slavia Praha 0:1 (Att: 4 620)
September 17: Zlín - Plzeň 1:7 (Att: 3 938)
September 17: Jablonec - Liberec 1:1 (Att: 3 650)
September 17: Sparta Praha - Slovácko 5:0 (Att: 17 039)

Highlights of this round:
- All favourites won again. Sparta had no troubles against Slovácko, lead 2-0 quickly and controlled the match. Slovácko missed several of their key players and did not seem like they believe they can collect some points today. Birmančević and Haraslín lead Sparta to victory, both collecting three points.
- Slavia won only 1-0 in Pardubice despite creating quite a lot of chances. As usual, they could have dropped two points but goalkeeper Mandous saved a header after a corner kick. Slavia continues to have troubles scoring, both Sparta and Plzeň have a lot more goals scored.
- Plzeň destroyed Zlín away, scored seven goals, Šulc and Durosinmi scored twice. Zlín's Černín was sent off in 7' when the match was already 0-1 and it was clear that Zlín will not get any points.
- Olomouc continues to win matches and sits at N3, this time they turned around the match against České Budějovice.
- Interesting stuff happened in the match between Bohemians and Ostrava. Ostrava announced the line-up with Tanko but he got slightly injured during the preparation for the match. He was replaced by Almási but Tanko was still available on the bench, was substituted in late in the match and assisted on the equalizer for Ostrava. This is forbidden in international matches (when a player is injured during preparation after announced in the line-up, he cannot be on the bench) but somehow in czech version of the rules this is not illegal. It seems that the rules will be updated in the next few days to avoid this happening again but Ostrava will not be punished for taking advantage of this loophole.
- Jablonec, Hradec Králové and Karviná will all likely fire their coaches very soon.

League table after Round 8:

Round 9
September 23: České Budějovice - Mladá Boleslav 1:2 (Att: 2 698)
September 23: Ostrava - Zlín 5:1 (Att: 7 786)
September 23: Liberec - Teplice 3:3 (Att: 2 327)
September 23: Slovácko - Karviná 2:0 (Att: 4 516)
September 23: Bohemians - Olomouc 3:2 (Att: 5 212)
September 24: Hradec Králové - Jablonec 1:0 (Att: 7 762)
September 24: Plzeň - Pardubice 6:2 (Att: 8 809)
September 24: Slavia Praha - Sparta Praha 1:1 (Att: 19 370)

Highlights of this round:
- The Prague derby was a total shitshow from everyone on the pitch. Time of play was 35 minutes and 14 seconds according to Wyscout stats, while dead time was 68 minutes and 45 seconds. Neither team wanted to play football, everyone just wanted to challenge the person in the other colours. Ref was absolutely incompentent. Both goals were scored from penalties, Slavia lead for about 30 minutes and conceded in the last minute of the added time. Everyone should be ashamed and lets pretend that this awful stuff never happened.
- Meanwhile Plzeň destroyed Pardubice despite being 0-1 down early and losing goalkeeper Staněk due to unlucky collision with his teammate. Plzeň now has 12 win streak in all competitions, pretty remarkable after their terrible start to the season. Sparta and Slavia need to look behind their backs. Sparta hosts Plzeň in the next round.
- Olomouc lead 2-1 at Bohemians twenty minutes before the final whistle but conceded twice and returned home with empty hands.
- Slovácko and Mladá Boleslav meanwhile look very good, scored another wins and look like european cup contenders.
- Ostrava also won the match against Zlín lead by their former coach Vrba and is also in the run for top6 this season.
- As expected, Karviná and Hradec Králové changed their coaches last week, only Hradec however got some points this weekend. Jablonec's coach Látal was also in danger and losing in Hradec doesn't help him one bit. He could be out soon too.

Round 10
September 30: Olomouc - Ostrava 0:3 (Att: 10 015)
September 30: Zlín - České Budějovice 1:1 (Att: 2 267)
September 30: Jablonec - Slovácko 2:0 (Att: 2 642)
September 30: Karviná - Liberec 5:2 (Att: 2 212)
September 30: Sparta Praha - Plzeň 2:1 (Att: 17 791)
October 1: Mladá Boleslav - Bohemians 2:1 (Att: 3 331)
October 1: Teplice - Slavia Praha 0:0 (Att: 15 193)
October 1: Pardubice - Hradec Králové 1:1 (Att: 4 530)

Highlights of this round:
- Sparta won against Plzeň at home 2-1 but was clearly the better team and could have scored more goals. On the other hand, in the last minute of the added time, their center back Vitík had to save them on the goal line and prevent the potential equalizer.
- Slavia on the other hand played terribly and was lucky to get a point in Teplice. Slavia's goalkeeper Mandous saved a penalty. Despite close to 80 % possession Slavia created nothing notable. They scored a somewhat clumsy goal which was ruled offside after five minutes of VAR review.
- In the european cups fight, Ostrava helped themselves a lot with a win away in Olomouc. Two breakaways by Ostrava's Tanko early in the match were decisive, one of them ended in goal and the other in a red card for Olomouc's goalkeeper Macík.
- Slovácko looks worse and worse with every passing week. This time they were clearly the worse team in Jablonec which secured their very first win in the season. Their coach Látal was on the brink of being fired but now his position is a bit safer.
- Liberec on the other hand conceded five goals in Karviná and their coach Kozel seems to be in danger. Next match, Liberec hosts Slavia.
- Mladá Boleslav continues to be a strong contender for european cups, they are strong offensively even though not that convincing in defense.
- A draw between Zlín and České Budějovice did not help either team and both have to be worried in the fight to avoid relegation.

Round 11
October 7: České Budějovice - Karviná 1:0 (Att: 2 249)
October 7: Bohemians - Zlín 0:0 (Att: 5 412)
October 7: Olomouc - Mladá Boleslav 4:0 (Att: 2 939)
October 7: Slovácko - Teplice 2:0 (Att: 4 232)
October 7: Ostrava - Pardubice 1:1 (Att: 9 108)
October 8: Hradec Králové - Sparta Praha 1:3 (Att: 9 300)
October 8: Plzeň - Jablonec 3:2 (Att: 8 505)
October 8: Liberec - Slavia Praha 2:3 (Att: 5 927)

Highlights of this round:
- Another easy win for Sparta and this time it was really impressive. Just three days after a tough match away against Betis Sparta faced Hradec Králové away at their new stadium. Sparta scored early but then their forward Olatunji was sent off in 19' after a second yellow which should not have beed awarded according to the opinion of the referees committee. Even in ten men, Sparta was a better team, soon scored a second goal and even after Hradec made it 1-2, Sparta scored again and won the match without any doubts about the result. It is obvious that Sparta is now the best team in the league.
- Slavia on the other hand faced Liberec after a home demolition of Sheriff Tiraspol. Almost the same starting eleven was completely unprepared and Slavia found itself down 2-0 after 8 minutes of absolute chaos in defense. After that Slavia scored in the first half to make it 2-1 at halftime. Early in the second half VAR incorrectly awarded Slavia a penalty for a handball and van Buren equalized. Slavia created almost nothing for the rest of the match but a moment of brilliance by Matěj Jurásek and Christos Zafeiris produced the game winning goal in 87'.
- Plzeň played an interesting first half against Jablonec, was 1-0 up, then 1-2 down, then 2-2 and VAR disallowed a 3-2 goal. Nevertheless, Plzeň scored in the first minute of the second half to make it 3-2 and controlled the win after that. However, Plzeň's goalkeeper suffered another hit to the head and for the second time in three week had to be substituted. He should be however OK after the international break.
- Olomouc destroyed Mladá Boleslav in the european cup contenders match.
- Ostrava dropped two points at home in a tricky match against Pardubice which once again plays interesting football with quite a young team.
- Bohemians do not seem to be able to fight for top 6 this season, proving that last season was more of a fluke than a sustainable step forward.
- In the relegation fight, České Budějovice secured a crucial win against Karviná via late game winning goal by Musa Alli.

A good news and a bad news for Zlín.

The good news: they scored 5 goals!
The bad news: Mlada Boleslav scored 8 goals in the second half, 9 in total.

Perhaps there will be a new song on the terraces:-

Working 5 to 9...

Looking forward to the explanation from quelhar on his weekly summary.

Has the 5-9 scoreline even appeared in any kind of professional or top division match at all?

Round 12
October 21: Zlín - Mladá Boleslav 5:9 (Att: 2 523)
October 21: Pardubice - Olomouc 1:1 (Att: 3 141)
October 21: Karviná - Hradec Králové 1:0 (Att: 2 270)
October 21: Liberec - Plzeň 3:0 (Att: 3 127)
October 21: Slavia Praha - Slovácko 2:0 (Att: 17 084)
October 22: Sparta Praha - České Budějovice 4:0 (Att: 16 537)
October 22: Teplice - Ostrava 0:1 (Att: 5 378)
October 22: Jablonec - Bohemians 0:1 (Att: 2 613)

Highlights of this round:
- We have to start with the most crazy result. Mladá Boleslav was 1-2 down at halftime but then scored 8 goals in the second half and defeated poor Zlín 9-5. There is no reasonable explanation for this. Both goalkeepers made several laughable mistakes, some low xG shots found the net and towards the end, Zlín simply collapsed and did not defend at all. Zlín's coach and former Plzeň, Sparta and Czech NT manager Pavel Vrba was fired after the match. The highlights from this match are available here (I am not sure if there is some country protection however and if it will work outside of Czechia): https://tv.isport.blesk.cz/video/870339 ... torii.html
- Sparta is cruising though the league, České Budějovice did not stand a chance at Letná. Sparta's manager Brian Priske signed a new contract in the club and Sparta does not seem to be in any sort of troubles despite injuries to some of their important players (Krejčí, Haraslín)
- Slavia had a lot more problems against Slovácko and clinched a win thanks to two goals in final 15 minutes of the match. Slovácko created almost nothing but was able to defend very well. Matěj Jurásek broke the deadlock in 78'.
- Plzeň is in a bad spot recently. They lost their star goalkeeper Staněk due to repeated head injuries and his replacement Tvrdoň had a bad match in Liberec, not only conceding two goals which he should have been able to prevent but also he injured his star teammate Durosinmi who will miss four months with a knee injury. Plzeň is 10 points behind Sparta and despite having one match in hand, this could turn out to be too large gap for Plzeň to close.
- Olomouc was lucky to get a point in Pardubice due to an added time own goal. Pardubice continue to play reasonably well but they are unlucky and unable to get more points to move from the relegation zone.
- The refs butchered Teplice at home against Ostrava with a ridiculous red card for Teplice's Mičević after a VAR intervention. Ostrava finally scored a game winning goal in the second half and moved already to N5!

Did Zlín - Mladá Boleslav play korffball? (This is sport with always a lot of goals and here in the Netherlands we refer to this sport if scores like this occur: a korffball-result; see https://www.korfbal.cz/ if you don't know this sport)
PAOK is not a club. PAOK is a cultural phenomenon.
