Their first European Cup shot since di Stefano scored against them in the 1950s!
Copenhagen 1 - 1 Rakow
Rakow showed very little in the 1st haff but I knew this would be their gameplan, to play defensive and then if still level, attack more near the end. Once they went a goal down though that plan went out of the window and they didn't seem to have a plan b. Things looked better in the 2nd half after the subs went on. Late goal made for a tense last few minutes but overall I would say Rakow didn't do enough in attack over the two legs to deserve going through. Not that Copenhagen did much more. Annoying that both Copenhagen goals were absolutely avoidable. The 2nd was a really amateurish mistake by Kovacevic, who in Poland has a reputation for being such a great goalkeeper. I do wonder though, if he's that good, why has he still not had a single cap for his country?

Depends on the draw tbh, could get City, Madrid and MilanJackson Harrison wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 23:04You won't get thrashed that badly! So Feyernoord, Porto and Copenhagen is the best and City, (presumably Real) Madrid and Milan the worst?Lubomir25 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 23:10Depends on the draw tbh, could get City, Madrid and MilanJackson Harrison wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 23:04You won't get thrashed that badly! Even a broken clock is right twice per day.
You think they were right this time because they knew a lot about Rangers (new manager, half the squad is new, self-confidence is low after 0-0-6, compared to one year ago when they were the EL vice-champions, probably relieved to go to a competition where they have a success rate of 100% advancing from groups instead of another where they have 10%)?
Or they knew nothing about Rangers and their "default" is just "worse neighbours that couldn't even win the home match will lose away"?
I think it was the second.

But they lose the coefficient bonus points available in CL plus there is still the possibility of finishing third in CL group stage and qualifying for the EL PO round in February.Michael S Collins wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 23:02 Better for the Scottish coefficient to have Rangers in the EL imo.

Ye but there's no "easy" draws to be fair. PSV humped rangers and Feyenoord are supposedly better than themJackson Harrison wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 23:13So Feyernoord, Porto and Copenhagen is the best and City, (presumably Real) Madrid and Milan the worst?Lubomir25 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 23:10Depends on the draw tbh, could get City, Madrid and MilanJackson Harrison wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 23:04

Celtic have been awful so far this season. I am not expecting anything even domesticallyJua Ferreira wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 23:12that group would be good excuseLubomir25 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 23:10Depends on the draw tbh, could get City, Madrid and MilanJackson Harrison wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 23:04

I'm assuming you got that the wrong way round based on last season's performanceJackson Harrison wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 23:16But Rangers better than Celtic!Lubomir25 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 23:16Ye but there's no "easy" draws to be fair. Edit: can't get both City and Newcastle swap City for PSG

AEK have to feel they missed a chance this year to play in the Champions League, a chance they might not have again soon.
AEK plays a system that is pleasant to the eye and effective against low quality teams, but against more quality teams it requires either better players (especially defenders) or better finishing their own chances in order to get the results.
They won only 1 of their 4 European matches, and 0/2 at their new home stadium, while scoring all 3 of their goals there after the 90th minute.
Europa League it is, much like Panathinaikos. I don't think the big 3 of Greek football have ever played in the same competition since 2004-05 (all of them in Champions League Groups).
