Why do people think that there should be limitation on how many teams from a given country a team can play?
I can see travel restrictions (e.g, a team from Iceland should not have to travel to Cyprus, Israel and Turkey), but why shouldn’t they play three or four teams from Norway?
For the same reason there is still country protection. Country protection at groups didn't on;y ensure that a club will not face a club from same country but also ensured that all clubs will fact opponents from different countries
That was only a side effect, never was the intent of the protection.
A team from country X could face a team country Y a few times in Qualifying, in the group stage, in the R32 and in R16. All of these have Country protection, but no protection against playing a team from the same country.
16.02 The opponents of each team, as well as whether each match is played at home or away, are determined by means of a draw. Each team is drawn against two opponents from each of the four pots and plays one opponent from each pot at home, and the other away. In principle, teams from the same association cannot be drawn against each other and each team may play against a maximum of two opponents from any other one association, subject to Paragraph 16.03.
